I tried the above suggestions, numbers 1, 2 and 3 in conjunction with each other but it didn’t work. So I downloaded Traveler (I already had the other two), and keeping the graphics down as well, it finally worked! My sims got home! Thank you ?.
There were a couple of weird things happen - one of my sims lost her coloured skin (she had already had her fairy/witch state changed with genie in China and thinking back in it, she may had lost her skin colour upon arrival in China - I would have to check the pics), and one of my sims who had remained home lost all her progress towards her kleptomaniac LTW ?. But other than that, everything seems to be working well.
