64-bit not in library (Mac)

Sooo I've been trying to run Sims 3 from the new EA app, and the game is showing up in the library with the message that it will only run on Macs that support 32-bit. I created a case asking them to give me access to the 64-bit, and the support guy thought he was doing that but nothing has changed in the library.

I can press play and launch the game. I can get through the first loading screen that says Sims Ambitions on it, then to the screen where you can log in/choose towns. I get stopped at the screen where you find the various objects as the progress bar is loading.

The support chat guy was stumped and told me to post here so a community manager would see the issue. I'm not sure where the issue lies, and I've read various posts and am not sure what the next step is.

  • ccrummett  If you're using the EA App, your system runs macOS Catalina (10.15) or newer, which means it cannot run any 32-bit apps, which means you're running the 64-bit version of Sims 3.  The game wouldn't even open otherwise.

For the crashing, have you installed any mods or custom content?  If so, please rename the Sims 3 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts, or move it to your desktop.  Doing so will prevent the game from reading its contents, including any saves you have, but the files will all be intact and can be restored later.

If that doesn't help, please try playing with your computer offline.  You can sign into the EA App and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi before pressing Play.

If that doesn't help either, please list the full specs of your Mac: everything under About This Mac including the operating system and except for the serial number.
