With that, I've deleted the contents of my DCBackup file.
I found out that I had one of the known bad nkd bottom items (*** or something) installed, but not in the DCBackup folder (I was using the .DCB signatures to find things, so I missed it; I must have deleted the backup file without uninstalling it some time earlier).
I'll go try my game again and make sure there's nothing untoward going on.

Edit: the censored item started with C and had a V in it... I don't know if it was censored to prevent the spread of bad CC or if the letters superficially resemble those in the vulgar name of a female body part (in which case they're really going too far). Oh... no, they resemble an event. My mistake.
