Can Not Switch My Active House Hold Because Of University

Ok so i have sent a sim to college and I can go back to the main world but it will not let me switch active house holds and the switch active household button is gray and won't let me click it please help

You wanna switch active households at home or at Uni ? At Uni you can't. It works like world adventures so you can't change the active family.

well i moved the sim to the university but i had other things i had to do with another family so i went to edit neighbor hood and went back to my main world and it wouldnt let me make any of them my active household

While your other Sim was still at Uni ? That confuses the game. Return home with your Sim and then change families.
Wonder why you can even do that.
