I just got the Sims game and haven't gotten to play it once. Every time I hit a new game, then checkmark to load it up, I get a serious error with loading the Sunset Valley world.

You can try this article to solve the issue [Current Issue] Sims 3 "serious error" when loading save | EA Forums - 8322938 A lot of the time it's caused by the game not being able to write to the Current game folder, I find sometimes right clicking on that folder and unchecking read only and also deleting the cache files helps.
