Downloadable games vs. physical games

I have The Sims 3 and a few expansion packs on disks and are installed on my computer, but I would like to buy some new expansions that are just downloadable. Will this cause a problem since all my games are on disks? Also is there some way to save the physical copies on my origins account so I don't have to use the disk every time I want to install it on a new computer?

You can use a mixture of both. When you buy it downloadable from Origin, you don't ever need the disc for that game. Yes you can add your games to Origin, but you need to make sure to uninstall the physical disc copies before installing the digitial versions of that same game from Origin.
