i have the same problem, i used a year to create a world, almost done, and no i cant play. i cant use the orgin app for they have blocked it, and the new ea app launch it wrong, so now i playd for a year for nothing. im so frustraded... and i cant find a way to contact ea from my location eather. hope they fix it for this is not fun.
I am noticing this same issue - CAW (Edit In Game) does not load properly. It worked fine yesterday, but it is broken today. I might have known this new app would be the culprit.
I was forced to update, as exiting out of TS4 prompted an undeletable pop-up on Origin telling me it was time to update.
It would appear that the "new player experience" EA promised us through their new application is a new level of inability to play one of their games.

Many people in the sims community have come up with workarounds to keep using CAW. The most recent one is to download and reinstall Origin, then edit a line of code.

Someone at Mod the Sims suggested using Lazy Duchess launcher. I haven't used this workaround, but it might be worth checking out: Mod The Sims - View Single Post - PSA: To Continue Using CAW and EIG if You're Forced into EA App, Go Back to Older Versions of Origin
The alternatives are to hunt and peck all the discs (since this issue doesn't affect disc installs) or go Steam version, but the problem is that you'd have to rebuy everything on that platform and then hack the registry to get CAW to work. And now I'm hearing rumors that the registry hack edit doesn't work anymore or that some people are having problems with it. If you ever decide to go Steam, I strongly suggest going to those forums to lurk and see what's going on before spending money and taking the plunge.
