Hi and a merry Christmas around here!
A part of my daughters christmas gift have been some DVDs of the SIMS 3 family (base game, late night, world adventures and some more).
After installing the DVDs some updates are done (online updates for launcher and games - requested when the game was started).
But now the problem is that one and the same update is always requested again and again.
The launcher always request for the update to v1.42.130.0190xx, but I have done this already 5-6 times (the super patch with 1.1g size)!
I have been looking for a solution, but cant find any useful information for that.
Even worse, after performing the update the EPs (like world adventures or pets) cant be started any longer! Error message is "There was an error during startup. Please see the log for more details." Fine, but where can I find this logfile? Windows logs does not show anything, in the directories of the game I cant found any log file too? OS is WIndows XP (SP3).
Also I am not really able to identify the version for the base game. The launcher shows version 1.0.631.00002 (also this version is stated in ...bin\skuversion.txt ) but does not show any icon like seen in the picture here !?
Also several links to the sims community (i.e. this one ) does not provide useful information for a solution (or I am not able to find it?).
So what can I do to solve this update loop? I disabled the automatic update option so far.
I am looking around to fix this now for hours. Is it really so umcomfortable to install this game!? I cant believe... Do I need to install some patches prior to v1.42? If so, why doesnt the launcher do this?
I hope I do not need to install all 5 DVDs again, it will last some 2-3 hours to do this 😕mileysad: .
Thanks for any help or hint how fix this.

I found a solution myself, but as I imagined it was the worst case solution:
1. deinstall all the sims software.
2. run registry cleaner to remove all registry entries for the sims left from deinstallation.
3. reboot PC
4. ensure that latest OS patches are installed
5. Reinstall the sims software.
I dont know which of this steps solves the issue (may be all), but after doing so all is running. The online update to v1.42.130 was installed without any problems or a loop.
Strange...

Poor you,
i really feel for you.
My advice would be "DON"T GET STARTED ON THIS PATH OF HORROR"
Throw all the games in the bin and buy something else for your daughter as you WILL NEVER be able to find out how to fix this game.
Unless you are as obsessed by it as the rest of us, but If you are trying to fix it for someone else-
DON'T GO THERE.
I have been trying to fix this game for about 8 YEARS, yes, YEARS.!!!!!
The 1.42 patch is THE WORST in a long line of truly shoddy attempts to fix a product that has been in mortal decline for about three years now.
Patch 1.42 and the Seasons EP seem to me to be the game's death throes.
I have never been so angry about anything before.
Having spent hundreds and hundreds of pounds on this game i can't tell you how furious i am at the lack of concern, lack of knowledgable help,
lack of acknowledgement that the game is f....ed for so many people, lack of any kind of redress.

I'm really curious. How do you try to fix a game for 8 years when it's only been out for 3 ?

That's just seriously bad. Thanks for that Crinrict, that gave me a good laugh. Anyway, thanks so much for updating this post for patch 1.47, your constant input into this community is appreciated most definitely by me and (I hope) by many others.
Thanks.
