There are a gazillion reasons for lag/freeze. Check Crinrict's site for good summaries and threads to help you troubleshoot your world. Other people can play that world smoothly. So if your computer is up to spec, then you have to find the problem and correct it, before your world will be playable.
Troubleshooting is never easy, but when you have that Eureka moment, and correct the problem, victory never felt so good. I hope you experience it soon. :)
