Have your child use their cell phone and click the "Move" button. Then a screen will pop up saying where you would like to move that child. Pick a random house then on the pop up screen it will have a check box that will say "Make this active household" Make sure your child's picture is by the new house and make sure the rest of your family stays at your house. It is important to make sure that the check box saying "Make this active household" is on the side with the family you wish to continue playing with.
Thank you, so will I be able to play my child and the original family if I do this?
You will be able to visit that child at their household. However you will not be able to control them. The computer should comtinue their life itself. Thus meaning that evenutally he or she will get a girlfriend or boyfriend, then get engaged, married, and eventually have children of their own. But I do not believe there is a way to switch between households like that. But you may interact with that child like another Sim in the game. If you do not like playing that way I have made two houses before (on the same lot) and just had the Sims live in the different houses.
Ok I will try it that way, I was trying to switch between the two because my sims have more than one child and I wanted to continue to play both. THANK YOU for the information.

I also wanted to do the same I have 4 kids but I wanted to move one out with his girlfriend and live next door to me. But I couldn't control them so that was a disappointment so I understand how you feel.
Thanks, I was really hoping to play both but i guess not. That was very helpful thank you.
@Ameliaiscoolio You can switch back and forth between the two houses if you like. Only one can be under your control at a time, and the other will lose any assigned dreams and opportunities. Still, you can play any number of families rotationally. Some people who do this turn aging off for part of the time, so it's as if the other households are paused while you're not controlling them.
Occasionally the game will move a family out of town while you're not looking, but for me at least, this has always happened around 1-2 am. So if you want to avoid this, you could save the game each day just before midnight and check on your favorite households from map view in the morning. That way, if you have to quit without saving, you'll only have lost a few sim-hours of sleep.
You can make two save files. One with the adults that have moved out. And another with the rest of the family at the original household. But the only downside is, the two different files or two different lives are in totally different times. Like say you made a change to the adults life on one safe file? Well that change doesn't apply to the other. So like if the adults got married and had a baby or something on one file. The other file with the rest of the family, none of that ever happened. So that's why I'm here. I was looking for answers too. There are so many * about sims 4. Like out the a million updates it goes through, why not add these things?
