How to find and download free and discounted items in-game?

Hello, it just seems that EA and Origin could make these games a little easier to install and use...my gripe this time is I'm unable to download the free items offered for this weekend. I find them in the build/buy mode, but when I click the item I keep getting a message that I need to buy more Simpoints...I thought the items were free???? Do I need to go to the store itself and download from there? I searched the Objects pages on the store website and couldn't find them.

    The free items they offer are usually through the ingame store only.

    What items are they and does it say ingame that they are free ?

    In the game launcher welcome panel, it was announced that there would be free and discounted items this weekend and gave directions on where to find the items in-game. I found the items but when I click to download it I'm told I don't have enough points and I need to buy more, though these items are supposed to be free for this weekend only. Not sure why I'm told this...

    Well, I went in-game and clicked the "free" items but points were taken from my account!!!!...how do I have these pointed credited back to my account???
