It does work for me if I use the option on the phone instead of the question in the beginning (as you found yourself I see)
@Writin_Reg: Is it any special time the freezing happens or is it random ? I think the tmp files are more for the launcher issue where stuff wouldn't show anymore than for backup. The launcher IS reading those files. Hence it's taking longer.
Did you guy create a completely new folder or just the saves and stuff ? There are reports that the downloadedsims.index file is giving troubles as well. Deleting it helps.

Really sorry, RL and other stuff keeps butting in today. I'll be compiling in the morning when I'm fresh. Nothing good would come out of it if I did it now.
I'll try to at least make the post on the moving issue but I'm not very hopeful to that to. It's almost midnight again.
