I think this is another invisibility problem. It's more of a rendering problem because of all the Sims on that lot. If you watch them for awhile, some turn visible and others turn invisible, so I think because of all the lagginess because of the crowd, the graphic card has trouble displaying all the sims.
Again, Overwatch has a fix for that problem since it helps with the congregation problem. With overwatch one by one leaves the lot or you can reset the lot and they don't come back.
So far I think there are three problems that can render your Sim invisible:
- Large crowds, stuck sims that make your game laggy and because of this the graphics have trouble actually displaying the Sim. This is only a temporary invisibility and they can turn visible any time.
- Broken outfits. No clue what breaks them but Twallan pinpoints them on cc that is being uninstalled from the game. That's certainly true for invisible babies when you uninstall bad cc. Could be other reasons. Fix Invisible Sims on DebugEnabler fix those
- TestBrawlError. The error occurs at a point in time where the other sims are leaving rabbit holes, buses or other actions that make them temporarily invisible. Because of the error, the game bounces and the Sim does not get visible. ResetSim makes those visible again but there could be other problems following (like the stuck in bed issue).

So when you ran my saved game, I'm assuming you have mods installed, did any of the mods outright clean up that mess on the lot? Would any of those mods get all those sims to stop coming to the lot, never to return?
As you could see, that game file was still playable except there was no one left in town. They kept spawning to that lot. Which was totally different from my legacy family going corrupt (after LN patch) by being stuck in beds and then the whole game control panel going missing.
And you are correct, if it wasn't so sad it would have been funny. But another lost game was just not funny anymore.
