Only on page 9 of this thread (still working through it all), so my apologies if this has already been posted or if it is out of place.
This is an issue in my game and started about 4 months ago. No mods or cc so that can't be it. All I can offer is a work-around but it is not for everyone, if you are attached to that specific game at that moment.
I tried pretty much everything and only 3 things worked (in order of least drastic to most drastic):
- go into edit town mode, evict the family, save to the library and delete them from the panel on the left (you know when you evict, they are temporarily stored on the left of the screen which is the clipboard. Click on them in the clipboard, save a copy to the library and then delete them from the clipboard on the left - it is important to delete them from the left column as this deletes them from that game completely), place them in a new house (or the old house) and start playing again (this is sometimes a temporary fix - glitch can return). IMPORTANT: when you delete them from the clipboard, you remove all their relationships to townies. They will retain skills, careers, relationships to one another and their household inventory but they will not know anyone outside of their household. All relationships will need to be built anew. Also, all wishes and ops are gone.
- go into edit town mode, evict the family, save them to the library, delete them from the clipboard on the left, delete that game, start a brand new game in a brand new town and place your saved family in that new town (can be temporary too but mostly works long-term)
- go to edit town, evict each indvidual one by one and then save them one by one to the library and delete them from the left column (NB: this removes all their relationships including with one another). Start a new game, place them in that new neighbourhood - they will be strangers to one another (so the mother will not be the mother just a housemate) - this is a permanent fix but destroys that game since they won’t even know one another in the household.
Hope this helps someone. I know it is not for everyone but I focus more on skills, relationships within households and careers, so I am willing to give up relationships with townies.
Reset sim does not work for me with this glitch - either not at all (it has no effect) or it only works for a few minutes.
