@lizziefeath Please post the full specs of your Mac: everything under About This Mac except for the serial number. Please also list the expansion and stuff packs you have installed.
Let me know what world(s) you're playing in as well and whether this happens in a new save in Sunset Valley.

Sorry about the late response, my game started working after I deleted some of the cache stuff but now it's doing it again. Here are my Mac specs: MacBook Air (13-inch, 2017)
1.8 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5
8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Intel HD Graphics 6000 1536 MB
idk a lot ab tech so I hope that's what you needed lol. The expansions/stuff packs I have are world adventures, high loft, ambitions, late night, generations, pets, showtime, supernatural, seasons, university life, island paradise, and into the future. I have also noticed that the more into a save I get like progress-wise (the older the kids get or something) the quicker it is to shut off. I had to delete a save because the game shut down so quickly after opening that the save was unplayable.

oh also this happened in a starlight shores save and now in my sunset valley save.

@lizziefeath The Pets expansion doesn't run well on integrated Intel graphics like yours. In fact, your graphics chip is below the minimum requirement for 64-bit Sims 3, although that doesn't mean you can't play at all, as you're seeing.
If you don't need the content in your game, I'd suggest uninstalling Pets entirely. You can do so by removing the EP05 folder from the "The Sims 3 Packs" folder, which in turn will be in either Applications or Users > your username > Applications. You'd need to start a new save—removing an EP from a save that's already been exposed to it is a surefire way to corrupt the save.
If you do want to keep the pack, there's a mod-related way to severely limit the number of actual pets in the game. It might take some experimenting to get things right; let me know if you're interested.
At the very least, I would suggest testing with Pets uninstalled to see how much of a difference it makes. Please test in Sunset Valley first, since it's the most stable of the EA-made worlds.

I'll try running the game with pets uninstalled since I don't really use the features at all and I'll let you know if anymore problems occur. Thank you for your help!
