Mysterious plumbobs clipping through the floor

One of them's been there for a while, the other only just showed up. Does anyone know how to get rid of them? Or at the the very least how to get new ones to stop appearing before my house is overrun with plumbobs.

  • bookwyrmthegreat  Have you tried an NRaas MasterController town reset?  If not, it's worth trying now.  Click City Hall or an in-game computer and select NRaas > MC > Town Options > Reset Everything.  It may take a few minutes to finish, depending on the complexity of the world and the speed of your computer.  When it's done, you'll get a notification.  Let the game clock run for a few sim-minutes, use "save as" to rename the save (so you're not overwriting the original), quit, delete the five cache files in the Sims 3 user folder, and reload.

I would also strongly suggest adding NRaas ErrorTrap and Overwatch, if you haven't already, and doing so before running the MC reset.

  • bookwyrmthegreat  Are you sure there aren't any sims hiding underground?  That is a serious question.  And the sims don't necessarily need to be all the way underground.  When a sim's outfit assignment breaks, their body disappears, leaving a plumbob floating just above the ground, but it can also be half-buried underground when the house has a foundation or the terrain has been reshaped.

If this doesn't help, and you use mods, or are willing to add a few, let me know, and I can walk you through trying to figure out whether any sims are there and removing them.

I don't think there's anyone underground. The house has no basement, foundation, or edited terrain. The floor plumbobs are completely stationary. While going to go double check so I could respond to you, I started also experiencing the invisible sim problem you described. His plumbob isn't clipping through the floor and is still moving around as normal, hence why I don't think that's what's going on with the floor ones.

I do use mods, would love a walkthrough on how to fix this.

  • bookwyrmthegreat  For the active sim, simply have them change their outfit.  If you don't have a dresser on the home lot, point the camera at another lot, far enough away that you see a blank mini-portrait on the edge of the screen in the direction of your sim.  Click that and select the outfit you want; this is the same as clicking the sim, except you can do it without the sim being visible.

For the other plumbobs, add NRaas MasterController if you don't already have it, plus its Cheats add-on.  Click the ground of the lot, select NRaas > MC > Sim > Basic > Family Tree, X out the filter if you see it, and you'll get a list of sims on the lot.  This is just to check whether there are any other sims present that would explain the plumbobs; if you find some, you can use the resetsim cheat to sent them away.

And I do understand that inactive sims shouldn't have plumbobs, but it's not completely clear what these objects are, so it's worth checking anyway.

If you don't see any other sims, click the ground, select NRaas > MC > Object Info > Not Inventory, and look for anything that resembles one of these objects.  (There should be a plumbob for your active sim, but that's not what you want.)  For anything you think might be relevant, select it, select everything again in the next prompt, and you'll get one notification in the upper-right corner per item.  Clicking the thumbnail centers on the object the notification covers, so you'll be able to tell what those objects are.  Then, if you don't want them around, you can use the MC > Object Stats command in the same way to flush only these objects, not anything else.

  • Okay so I got the info for the plumbobs, but I'm unsure how to delete only the two mystery ones without deleting my sim's plumbob as well.

EDIT: Tried doing it while my sim wasn't home, which did allow me to select only the two mystery plumbobs with NRaas, only for the plumbobs to not actually be deleted when I tried to flush them.

  • bookwyrmthegreat  To be clear, MC didn't find any other sims on the lot that you could reset?  What happens if you reset Silver The Hedgehog?  Or is that your main sim?  I'm just looking at the name in the notifications and wondering if he's related to the plumbobs.

If he is your main sim, or he's not but the reset doesn't help, try an MC reset of the lot, in the same menu where you select Object Info, and then try flushing the other two plumbobs again.

If that doesn't help either, go to Edit Town, evict your sim, save the house to your library, bulldoze the lot, place the house again, and put your sim back.  He'll keep his career and relationships but lose his promised wishes and opportunities.  If you don't like the results, you can quit without saving.

Silver is my main sim, even after a lot reset flushing still doesn't work. Bulldozing the lot did get rid of the plumbobs but completely broke everything else. Most of the UI is either missing or unresponsive. Clicking on anything just says "No interactions available". It's like this for every household, not just Silver's. I ended up having to go back to an earlier save.
