The disc error has been around well before El Capitan was released. The easiest thing to do is uninstall your most recent EP and then reinstall the digital version via Origin. Instructions here.
- 10 years agoI have the same problem. I don't want to have to use origin, as I have read, origin is also not compatible with El Capitan.
Is there any way to fix this? Or is downgrading the software my only option?- Bluebellflora10 years agoHero+
Origin is compatible with El Capitan. Have you tried it?
- 10 years agoIt is? Hmm...I've seen a lot of stuff saying that Origin and El Capitan haven't been working. But if it actually does, that could be an option for me. Do you always have to have Internet to play your game on Origin then? I don't have Internet at home :/

I am having the same problem since installing El Capitan, and it is not a disc error, it is the fact that the message reads, you need to load your disk, but my disk is in my driver. For some reason, the program, when it opens, is not reading the disk. How can this be? What does El Capitan have to do with the computer reading the disk. Also, my game is not logging into my account properly. It tells me I only have 195 points and that is so far off that it is funny. If I cannot get my game to work, I will have to stop playing Sims3 and I have no desire to purchase Sims4. In addition, I have been saying points to purchase the Last Venue of Amore, and now that I finally have enough, I cannot get the game to work. If I had known ahead of time that El Capitan was going to cause this problem, I would never have done the update. This is so darn frustrating, and I lost an entire day trying to fix the problem, including following all the advise given and none of it works. What a disappointment - and I was going to ask for an expansion pack for Christmas - well, that is now out of the question.

That is a disc error. It will be fixed by downloading the digital version via Origin.
Have you logged into the Sims 3 Store site and checked your account history? That may explain your Simpoint issue 🙂

Where exactly do I find my account history? You are talking about the Sims3.com site, correct? I found account details, billing history, and purchase history, but no account history link under My Store Account. I'm not sure where you a directing me to look.

Why would you have to buy the games again? What problem are you having?

^^ Sorry, but that fix does not work. I had exactly the same issue as the player above. I played the game yesterday morning perfectly fine with no issues (as I have for last many years). Yesterday afternoon I updated to OS El Capitan, today I tried to play the game and had the issue as mentioned above.
I re installed and now the game won't even open at ALL, let alone get to the choice selection! If I double click the icon, it opens in my task bar at the bottom, but does nothing. I have forced quit, restarted and even re downloaded and overlaid origin, but nothing has worked.
So nope, re installing the game doesn't solve this.
I am running sims 3 and the expansion pack Outside Living. I logged onto the website and it has history of my sims 4 purchase, which I never play, but I would have to spend £29 to download the full game if sims 3 rather than use a disk. Surely this could be got around by entering my game code from the box?I don't want to pay for the game all over again, and I will have lost my entire household with generations and generations of sims. Very sad times!
I only bought a disc player for my mac to play sims3 too!! Frustrating!!

Yes, you can enter your product code from the disc version and get the digital version at no extra cost.
When you uninstalled did you get rid of all the hidden files? Or just use the uninstaller?

So i have had my Mac OS X El Capitan for a while now and used to play the sims 3 on disc and it work fine for a while until it stopped working and told me there was a disc error or something. i decided to try playing on origin and i can get to the launcher but when i press play something comes up saying that there was a problem and could not connect to server. I've tried deleting background apps and plenty more stuff but it didn't help. if you know how to help me than PLEASE do. thank you in advance!
