I have the same problem. I don't want to have to use origin, as I have read, origin is also not compatible with El Capitan.
Is there any way to fix this? Or is downgrading the software my only option?

Origin is compatible with El Capitan. Have you tried it?
- 10 years agoIt is? Hmm...I've seen a lot of stuff saying that Origin and El Capitan haven't been working. But if it actually does, that could be an option for me. Do you always have to have Internet to play your game on Origin then? I don't have Internet at home :/

You can choose to play offline.
Origin didn't work properly on one of the previous betas of El Capitan but it's fine on the actual release.

Please read and follow my guide on the disc authorisation work around - http://bluebellflora.com/disc-authorization-failure/ - all your questions are answered and with further links to help you. However, if you have a new model iMac it is not compatible with TS3 due to the graphics card not being supported - http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-Mac/CURRENT-ISSUE-The-Sims-3-Issues-playing-on-newer-post-2013-Macs/m-p/4935394#U4935394
