ActiveX errors have to do with IE settings, I believe. Try messing with your ActiveX settings this way:
Control Panel > Internet Options > Security tab > Custom Level... > Make sure "Enable" is selected under Download ActiveX Controls and Plugins
It might be worth a shot to just reset all your security settings for IE anyway. No harm in restoring IE to its natural, default state. 🙂
