Re: After I create a character on sims 3 and press the tick, the game freezes

@simonster12  Try pulling your entire TS3 folder out of Documents (not just pieces, the whole thing).  When you launch the game again, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  Can you create a sim family and save it as a household?  If so, you might have a corrupt file somewhere in your game folder.  Custom content is one potential culprit, but certainly not the only one.  In your clean folder, you can start testing your content in batches, making sure that CAS still works properly.

Also be sure to delete the five cache files each time you quit while you're troubleshooting; they should be deleted regularly, even when you're not having trouble.  For reference, they are:

  • CASPartCache.package
  • compositorCache.package
  • scriptCache.package
  • simCompositorCache.package
  • socialCache.package

If you can't get through CAS without the game crashing even in a clean folder, please run a dxdiag and attach the results to a post here (use the Browse button).  Please also list the packs you have installed, and in which world(s) you're playing.

Thanks so much for trying to help, I am downloading a patch for sims 3 at the moment. I have tried to follow your instructions.

After creating a household I press the tick and go to where you edit their relationships and this is where it freezes.

My expansion packs are Supernatural and World adventures.

@simonster12  Okay, things are different on a mac.  Running the Super Patch is a good idea, but if it doesn't help, the problem is probably that the game is running out of memory.  Unlike TS3 in Windows, the mac version can only use 2 GB RAM at a time.  If it goes over for even a moment, it will crash.  CAS is more memory-intensive than regular gameplay, and there's probably a spike in RAM use when you click that check mark.

You can monitor memory use in the Activity Monitor, and purge RAM periodically.  But that only helps a bit.  When you get too close to the 2 GB limit, the only thing to do is to quit to desktop and relaunch the game.

While in CAS, you can save a sim you've been working on to the bin, so you can quit and reload when your memory use gets too high.  Having a lot of custom content will also increase RAM use in CAS, which is one reason I asked if you had any more success in a clean game folder.  (It wouldn't have any of your cc installed, although of course all of your content would remain in the old game folder.)

If you're still having issues, please list your mac's specs, as described in this post:
