Re: crashing to desktop, mystery

Thanks so much for your help.

I wasn't sure if you meant the latest version of the Sims (which yes, it's up to date) or the latest version of CLA, so I downloaded a fresh version of CLA and this is the report it generated:

It means nothing to me! The setting are already medium to low, but I'll set them to the lowest. The thing is though, I think my computer should be able to run it with higher settings. It has plenty of RAM and the graphics card is OK... It seems like there's somehting here not right, don't you think?

Also, just to clear it up, I don't have any cutom content installed at all. I installed it all fresh, went to play it before I messed with any mods or anything, and it kept crashing to I thought I'd better sort it out before I complicate matters.

Yeah, meant newest CLA version 🙂

I'm checking with Ford. I'll post back.

Thanks a lot. I just tested it out, lowered all the settings right down. It was more stable, I played it for maybe an hour until it crashed, but it's still doing the same thing. Still, it's better than it was at least. Looks horrible though, lol!!

Update: Tried again and it only ran for 15 minutes this time ☹️

Here's what Ford had to say:

I wonder if the computer has a bad stick of memory. I suspect a hardware problem because of the MSVCR80.dll and odd regularity with 500 MiB free memory every time.

All I can do for you atm. It will be awhile until I get back online so my suggestion is, that you talk to Ford on his thread yourself. Just make a comment in the CLA thread (I do assume you have an account since you have downloaded the tool). Guess that's better than me going back and forth.

Thanks a lot for all your help and thank Ford for me, I'll go get the memory sticks checked out and report back. It'll probably be in a couple of days by the time I get it looked at etc, but I'll definitely let you know. I was just playing a different game and THAT started crashing once things got more complicated, so I really think Ford is right.

OK, I took my computer into Best Buy to see if it had any hardware issues. They ran a diagnostic on it and told me the hardware was fine, but they also found  some malicious software (adware they said) and "optimized" things - like a service for your computer I guess. Now, I'd run the virus checker and ccleaner, but apparently this goes beyond that because now The Sims WORKS!!!!! Yay!!!!

The problem is, I have no idea what they even really did, let alone what it was that actually fixed The SIms, so it's of little help to anyone else hoping to solve the same problem.

Thanks for your time and advice.

    Great to hear.

Could you please accept a solution (probably your last post) so people know that this is sovled and what the solution was.

    Thank you
