You have no idea how long I have been trying to fix this issue!

I actually reverted to uninstalling Sierra and going back to Mavericks just to play but your fix worked a treat!

Amazing how EA themselves have just given up and said it's incompatible.

Can you please help me!!! i got a macbook pro from my parents after using my brothers 15 year old windows and i have no idea how to fix it!

Should i install all the Ep's i have then? Even tho it doesn't work on my base game and try from there? I've re-installed about 4 times now and the first two times the base game ran fine but i thought i should delete it just in case but now nothing is running

I thought for sure it worked but when I go into the transgaming>Program Files>Electronic Arts> folder with the expansion packs that you said should not be there is not the case; the expansion pack file is in this folder and still getting the unknown error.  Any other suggestions?

My whole game is no longer appearing i'm thinking of installing the game from the CD base do you think i should run through everything if the issue appears from the CD version? Origin isn't working for me

You're correct when you say the folder is there, for example, the late night folder should be within the late night app. However, if you go into the expansion pack that normally launches, is it in there along with all the other expansion packs? Are ALL your expansion packs you own in the folder with the one that launches?

Alright! Do you know how I can fix the graphic issues and the constant crashing? I seen bluebell's tutorial on how to fix graphic issues however i have a mid 2013 MacBook pro with intel hd 5000 and it doesn't work.

These are the graphics I use and have no problems with crashing, also it makes it very clear compared to the settings it starts you out with.

First time posting so not sure if I'm doing this right! I've decided to try and reinstall The Sims 3 on my MacBook Pro (13" Mid 2012, running OS Sierra 10.12.2) after removing everything- including Origin where I brought most of the expansion packs from- early last year. Before uninstalling, everything worked as it was supposed to and I never noticed any problems.

I've been able to re-download the base game through Origin and install it, but I get the 'Unknown Error' message whenever I try to play it; the game launcher never loads or even appears. I've tried opening the game through Origin, through the Applications folder and also through the icon on Launchpad and not had any success. I then tried Bluebellflora's 'clean uninstall and reinstall' tutorial a couple of times and also tried the Sims 3 super patch 1.67 but still had no luck. 

Does anyone have any advice? I'm not savvy enough to try uninstalling Sierra (which has worked for some on the thread) and am getting really frustrated with the whole thing!

Many people have been inoboxing me still having trouble with the Unknown Error Occured issue so I made a tutorial so you can visually see it better. I didn't physically copy and paste it since I already fixed mine, but you get the idea. Paste the file of the game you are having trouble with into the game that normally launches the game for you (for me that was island paradise but yours could be different) Read my original accepted solution to this if you are having any trouble understanding why i am doing what i am doing in the tutorial

I bought this game on Christmas and I've been trying for the past two weeks to get this to work via clean installs and etc. I was about to accept my fate that I would never play ambitions or late night however you truly changed it. 2017 just got better thanks to you.

Hey - thank you so much for trying to fix this for us all. But.. I'm still unable to open my game - it still says "Unknown Error Acooured", even after I went through your steps.

I tried coping the folder into each of my EPs, but nothing has worked. Now I uninstalled Late Night in every way, I am able to, but my game still will not open the launcher..

I tried un- and reinstalling alle of the games using Bluebellflora's guide - nothing has yet worked. Neither has reinstalling Origin or downloading the Super launcher...

I am really reaching the point of frustration. Thanks anyway! 

My sims 3, was working fine, I already have expansion packs. I decided to install ambitions and now sims is not loading and keeps saying unknown error occurred. I've tried many times to contact ea about the problem with in the last day and they're not replying. I've tried many solutions and they're not working. I was wondering if anyone had a solution, by the way i'm using a mac, which I heard this kind of thing happens on.
