Re: My sims 3 game is amazingly slow and laggy

@Maddieslat  Unfortunately, this is the kind of thing that can happen when running TS3 in mac OS, especially with a save that you've been playing for a long time.  Deleting the cache files should be a regular practice.  Turning down certain graphics options, like water and high detail lots, will also help.  (I think I mentioned these steps to you already.)

One common source of lag and delays in rendering is a world that's too large or poorly built.  This applies to certain EA worlds (especially Isla Paradiso, which is pretty much unplayable without some serious edits) as well as some custom worlds.  So it would help to know where you're playing.  Some EA worlds, like Sunset Valley or Riverview, are fine.  For the worlds in between, it may depend on the packs you have installed and the strength of your hardware.

There are other things you can do to try to cut down on the resources your save takes:

  • Turn off memories.  They're a big resource hog.  But this will help more in a new save than one you've been playing for a while, since the existing sims will already have memories in their scrapbooks.
  • Turn off in-game shopping and the hidden object interactive loading screens.  Both take resources that the game needs for itself.
  • Delete everything in FeaturedItems inside your game folder.  These files are from EA trying to sell you store stuff while you play, and they'll appear even if you have in-game shopping disabled.
  • Play while your computer is completely offline.  Just turn wifi off before you open the launcher.
  • Keep your sims' personal inventories as empty as possible.  A handful of items is fine; a hundred probably isn't.

There are also certain mods that help clean up corruption and unstick sims and objects, but I don't know whether you want to go that route.  Let me know if you're interested.

In the end, though, this might be a case of your save being too complicated for your computer to run properly.  TS3 doesn't have much breathing room in mac OS, and a macbook air doesn't have the high-end hardware to run the game on high settings, or really to handle the most demanding packs at all.  The question is how to get the best performance possible, and that requires some trial and error to figure out how to manage your game properly.
