I have no mods, but a little bit of CC, but I've always used the same custom content and it always works. Also, there are four files in my save file for the world I'm playing in.
Sorry, I should have been clearer, how big is the folder the four files are in? Could it be possible that you've downloaded something from the Exchange that had CC in it?
I haven't gotten anything from the exchange recently, so I doubt that's the issue and on the file of my world's save file it doesn't give me a size, but I added up all of the sizes of the files inside it and it adds to 64,695 KB.
I think it would definitely be worth trying a clean game and then adding your CC and saves back in gradually. Move your Sims 3 folder out from Documents > Electronic Arts onto your desktop. Relaunch the game so the folder is recreated then quit and reinstall your CC, a few pieces at a time.
You could try resetting all Sims, this will reset all Sims in the town.
Open the cheat console and type in -
resetsim *
Thanks to @fons_garmo for the suggestion 🙂
I put my save game back into the new folder and all of my custom content and it saved perfectly, but those are the only folders in there, so I don't think any of the store content I have is in the game. What folder is that? And how do I put all of my new settings back to the ones that I had before, like the aging process and seasons and screen resolution and stuff like that?
Your Downloads folder has your Store content in it. The Options.ini file has your screen settings.
I played it again to test it out and the saving took a really long time, so it must be something in my downloads? I'm not sure. Also, I'm not sure how to tell inside my downloads folder if it is custom content or not.
You could always redownload from the online Store. I did that last time I installed the game because of EA fixing a couple of Store items I had. Took ages but I now have a nice clean downloads folder. How about double clicking the items one at a time from the Downloads folder to install into the Launcher? You'll know when they show up in the Launcher whether they're CC or not.
It does sound like CC is the problem.
In the downloads folder I have these bin files and these two folders with lots of numbers as the name and files that say ChallengeData.package and PassportData.package. Is that normal? Also there are some Sims3Pack files with the name dynamicchallenge followed by a bunch of numbers and I can not tell what those are and it says they are already installed, but I can't find them.
Just Googled and found this info -
Folder with very long number (Introduced with Patch 1.31)
This folder contains two files PassportData.package and ChallengeData.package:
- PassportData holds information about your SimPort progress which you loose all if you delete the file.
- ChallengeData.package holds information about your achievements. All completed achievements that were awarded with badges are also saved on the EA server but things you've started (like jogging a certain distance) is saved in this file.
You should keep a backup of this folder

So yes, those appear normal.
I just went into my game with the custom content out and i typed in resetsim * and told my sim to use the toilet then my game crashed, and thank you for googling that.
- Oh dear! If you're installing and reinstalling CC a lot you should delete the cache files. How about starting with a fresh TS3 folder again? Install your CC gradually until you find the culprit.
Whilst CC can enhance your game you do have to accept that you're using it at your own risk and problems can and do occur ☹️ I deleted all of the package cache files are there any others you think I should delete?
- These?
CASPartCache.package
compositorCache.package
scriptCache.package
simCompositorCache.package
socialCache.package Ok, yeah I deleted those, then played my game with all custom content out and the saving is still taking a long time. I'm leaving my game open now to see how long it actually takes if it ever saves.
Update my game works now, so it must have been the custom content thank you.
Glad you finally managed to get it to work 🙂
Just kidding. The problem came back. I don't know what to do. I'll delete the cache files again to see if that works, but I guess custom content was not the problem because it's all out of my game now and the problem came back. Sorry
So it could be something in your saves?
- Yeah I guess because I put them back in my game. I'll delete the ones I don't play on and hopefully that works.
As soon as my game was about to fully load to go into gameplay it crashed. I'll try again later to see if it doesn't crash again, but I deleted all of the save files that I'm not using and I deleted the cache files.
Maybe better off just moving the TS3 folder and starting from scratch with a new one. You've moved out your CC and saves now.
