Do you have a lot of CC/Mods in your game? If so, try uninstalling some and see if that makes a difference. Check how big your save files are too - Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 > Saves then the name of the world you're playing.
I have no mods, but a little bit of CC, but I've always used the same custom content and it always works. Also, there are four files in my save file for the world I'm playing in.

Sorry, I should have been clearer, how big is the folder the four files are in? Could it be possible that you've downloaded something from the Exchange that had CC in it?

I haven't gotten anything from the exchange recently, so I doubt that's the issue and on the file of my world's save file it doesn't give me a size, but I added up all of the sizes of the files inside it and it adds to 64,695 KB.

I think it would definitely be worth trying a clean game and then adding your CC and saves back in gradually. Move your Sims 3 folder out from Documents > Electronic Arts onto your desktop. Relaunch the game so the folder is recreated then quit and reinstall your CC, a few pieces at a time.
