@ad1991 Specs would be helpful. It would also be useful to try moving or renaming the Sims 3 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts, so the game spawns a new one, that is if you've added any content at all to the folder or used a folder from an older install of the game.
Do you have an antivirus installed, or some kind of cleaner app? If so, try shutting it down.
The thread you linked is originally from 2013, and that issue may have nothing at all to do with your problem.
@puzzlezaddict Thanks for the reply - this was a clean install of the game, so nothing in the folders yet. I have moved it to the sims 3 folder to the desktop and still no luck.
Here are my Mac specs:
Operating System: macOS Big Sur 11.0.1 Beta (20B5012d)
Mac Model: MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2020, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports)
Processor: 1.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
Memory: 8 GB 2133 MHz LPDDR3Graphics: Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645 1536 MB
Don't have any anti virus stuff running and currently just trying to add the base game, will tackle EP's once I can load it!
Let me know if I can provide any other info.
Thanks!
@ad1991 If the base game works, great, let me know how it goes adding one pack at a time. If and when you do run into other issues, try repairing the game in Origin: open your game library, right-click on the Sims 3 icon, and select Repair.
If the base game alone doesn't work, try uninstalling it and reinstalling into a new admin user account on your Mac. Use only letters and numbers, no special characters or accents, in the username.
So I’ve set up a new admin account on my Mac, downloaded the base game again and now when the launcher starts it just goes back to origin...
This is infuriating!
Any advice @puzzlezaddict @MaxisJoe ?

@ad1991 When you say "the Launcher starts it just goes back to Origin" are you saying that you now do not actually get into Launcher, or you DO get into Launcher but when you try to get into the game you end up back at Origin?
Do you get anything interesting if you open a Terminal and run this command just after you see that behavior?
log show --last 10m | grep S3L @MaxisJoe So I DO get into the launcher, but when I press play in the launcher, it takes me back to Origin.
I ran that command and got this...

This same problem is happening to me. I wanted to update and redownload origin because my sims 3 was no longer letting me download custom content. so I updated everything, and my launcher comes up, but then I get this message.
Unable to start the game
Your The Sims 3 Base Game is incompatible with the current Sims 3 Expansion Pack. Please update your game via the game launcher.
@JaneRick17 Please go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 and delete the file labeled Version.tag.

@ad1991 Nothing of use there. ☹️
Can you clarify exactly what beta version of Big Sur you're on, and exactly what Macintosh (year, make, model, essential details about CPU and RAM)?
I apologize if you've provided previously. I'm tracking a lot of things and want to make sure I don't confuse the data. @MaxisJoe Here are my Mac specs:

- @MaxisJoe I am done with trying to figure this out, I've spent many hours and many days trying to fix this and now my game is unplayable from the crashes. I have every single bug mentioned, from sim packs not installing, water features not working, eyelashes and hair looking bad, now it is fully quitting the second I load one of my saves. I am going to wait this out. I have spent countless hours on these forums, and no good solutions have appeared. I appreciate all your guys' hard work. Please let us know when you have fixed the game, I can't take working on this frustrating game anymore.
- VSheriff5 years agoSeasoned Rookie@dragonlover32 I agree!!!! the game isn't playable at all!
Has anyone been able to play with a pet ?
My game is working (not SUPER smooth but working) without a pet in the household. That makes me super sad cause pets is one of the best packs in TS3. I’m sure they’ll fix it soon but are there any updates on this available ? I don’t mind the bulky eyelashes and little quirks like this (I’m never close enough to my sim’s fave anyways). What matters the most is gameplay.
@MaxisJoe Do you know if anything is being worked on regarding the pets issue ? thank you for taking the time to answer everyone’s questions.@XprincessdidiY I've played fine with multiple pets. However, my Mac has a dedicated graphics card. So far, everyone I've seen who has reported not being able to play with pets and who has provided specs has an integrated graphics card.
I'm not saying that you can't or shouldn't be able to play with pets, just that there's an obvious pattern here.
I see. That could be linked/explain the issue then. I'm sure the EA sims team will notice this sooner or later and provide a fix for it.
Thank you!
I agree as well. The crashes and other bugs make the game unplayable. Please let us know if/when there will be a fix for this!
@sophtoph4 I don't know when or even if these issues will be fixed, sorry. It does seem to help many people to play in windowed mode, and perhaps with the settings on low. I know that's not a great solution though.
@SarahGirlCutie Which packs did you install, and what specific issue are you having? Please attach your deviceconfig.log, in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3. You'll neeed to manually open the folders; the file won't show up in a search. You can delete your user and computer names, about 25 lines down, but there's nothing else in that file that can identify you.
- aodoherty5 years agoSeasoned Ace@dragonlover32 I'm also waiting for the fix. Currently playing on windows bootcamp.
I think my game keeps crashing also because of pets but even for the households that don't have it the game still crashes or freezes. I have tried uninstalling and repairing in Origin, updating my computer and Origin, resetting Origin by downloading the Reset Origin tool, and I have even entered safe mode to give it a try but that was even worse - the game wouldn't launch at all. If anyone has any other ideas or tips that would be great!
@ambshep123 Try turning lighting and tree detail down to the minimum settings. Be sure to change the settings at the Main Menu and quit to desktop before loading a save.
If that doesn't help, try playing in windowed mode. Use cmd-return (enter) to switch at the Main Menu or once a save has loaded.
If that doesn't help either, please attach your deviceconfig.log to a post. It's in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3. You'll need to manually open the folders; the file won't show up in a search. You can delete your user and computer names, about 25 lines down, but there's nothing else in that file that can identify you.
