Re: Sims 3 cannot access saved game

ok, start a new game throw any sim in to any lot (we're after the meta.data file) save and quit the game go to the new saved game copy the meta.data file then paste it into the game save file that is missing it then fire up your launcher you should hopefully see your save game we're trying to rescue( you may see the blue square with an outlined house ) play it once it loads play for a couple of mins use the save as option new name then save and quit launch your game again and you should now see the usual images for your game

What if all the files are missing? i copied the meta.data file and it starts to launch my game but it says it has a serious error loading. The only file in my game now is the meta.data. My save from the game I am trying to save is not there.

  • Just had this issue happen to me with the recent patch and this solution worked! I just wanted to post and say THANK YOU!! You saved months of my work!! :D

I tried to do it this way as well. Before I moved the data file over

it wouldn't allow me to even push play.

When I made a new game and then transfered it over I could push play.

Unfortunately when I do push play the loading bar that usually takes forever loads instantly with an error

message saying after a series of errors it is suggested to re load the game.

    Which in turn does nothing.

I did a backup on my girlfriends computer before it was sent back for a new hard drive..

promising her that her game would work fine.

Please let there be a way as to not make me even more in trouble!!! 🙂

So i saved my game before i reinstalled and now it says this, but i havent installed all the expansion packs that i had when i made the backup so could the issue actually be that i just need to reinstall the expansion packs that i had when i made the backup?

The message that pops up next to my two saved games is, "Cannot load this save game, as it needs a later version. Please patch your game and try again!" I checked in the Save file in my Sims 3 Folder and I see the meta.data file in both of my games (both of which I can't access.) I already checked for an update and it says that everything is up to date. I've been having so many problems with my game since everything is running on a macOS Sierra laptop.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! I have my saved game from before reloaded and running.... my question to this now is why did it act up like this, I have not played in two weeks?
  • Makes no sense to me and to someone who's not tech savvy I did what your supposed to do I save it then switched my laptop off so why can't I get back to my game,? And why isit so complicated to get it back

Oh my, it worked like a charm!  A decade later and on Windows 10. 🙂

Thank you, thank you, thank you soooo much.

My case: Laptop messed up, I had to system restore few days earlier.  I had made a backup of the folder.  After the system restore, I created a new My Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 folder.  Reinstalled all CCs, remade the folder, etc.

I did not modify any installations of the game, expansions, stuff etc.  They were the same for months now.

And of course they were the same in the restore point I chose.  Probably something with the registry restore, even though it should not have happened.

But when I started the game, some saves were corrupted beyond repair (restart application message) and some gave this message of  "could not load this game expansion pack data no longer present on this system".  Those were saved by your instructions.

A world I had modified, a household of 7, and hours over hours of playing.

Thank you very much again, best regards.
