The same thing happens to me but I can't use your solutions because once I try to save or evict my family, it stays on the possessing screen forever. Is there any other way around this? I feel like I've tried everything, and I really don't want to delete this family.

if your willing to share the save at the least i can try to save the family for you
go to your saves folder copy that save game folder to the desktop then right click it to zip it then do the same for the backup of that save then upload it to mediafire or googledrive send me a private message with the links once i download them I'll let you know so you can delete the uploads also let me know the name of the family and the town your in and if there are other sims in the game you want saved too
another thing to check too to see if something else is going on with the processing is make sure your not playing the game/is launched i.e. the game and Origin is not running then go to electronicsarts/sims3 see if there is a currentgame folder IF there are files in there delete them and if any .bad delete them too then launch and try again
