Re: The Sims 3 stops working when rotating camera

Try updating your graphic drivers. It also seems you have just a chip. While it does meet the requirements, it could help to lower the graphic settings and maybe turn off mirror reflections.

Graphic chips are usually not made for gaming.

  • Thank you for your answer.

I updated my graphic drivers and it actually got worse - I had to revert the installation and restore the system to a day ago.

The PC I bought was specially designed for gaming, and according to the manufacturer's webpage the graphics card is designed for gaming. Of course it's not the best one to play games, but I doubt that is the problem. I don't have any trouble playing other videogames, I didn't have trouble playing The Sims 3 until the latest expansions, which is when the error started to pop up.

Did you try lowering the graphic settings ?

    Here's some more suggestions: http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-3/FAQ-Game-Crashes-CTD/td-p/656/

Are you willing to try a third party tool ? There's a tool called crash log analyzer (just google).

It's not a magic tool that can stop the crashes but it can give an indication to where the error lies. Just copy the errors you get to the clipboard and post them here. Also be aware that it's not supported by EA.

  • Thank you for your new answer!

The tool you mention has in fact helped me. All crashes occured seem to be caused by custom content that I somehow didn't delete. I am now trying to delete all custom content (i.e., non-official content, fan-made content) and many items I'm trying to remove make the launcher crash and won't let me remove them. :S Is there any way for me to remove those items other than using the launcher? I was able to remove many custom items but there are 3 or 4 that just won't do it, the launcher crashes when doing so.

I swear I won't ever install custom content again... Sigh.

This is what the tool mentions (as you may see, I play the Spanish game):

Just go to the following folder: documents\electronicarts\thesims3\dcchache and delete all tiles that end in dbc.

That rids you of all cc in one go.

If you also have houses, sims or worlds, those are in library, savedsims or installed worlds
