Screen glitch

Hello. I  posted this problem on the Sims 3 subreddit but got no useful advice. I keep getting this random screen glitch in worlds like Bridgeport and Appaloosa Plains. I haven't noticed it elsewhere yet. I have no mods except NRaas and intro remover (in the second clip it was a fresh install). My graphics card is recognised, I applied Alder Lake. And it still happens. What causes this and how can I fix it?

I am running the EA app version of the game.

  • Sirsidoo  Do you know if there was a sim or animal where you were seeing the graphics glitch?  I saw something similar myself once with a no-cc sim whose outfit temporarily broke.  And it's possible for the sim to be invisible if their outfit assignment broke—the body can completely disappear.

The next time this happens, pause the game, click the ground where the glitch is, select NRaas > MasterController: [with the colon, not the bullseye] Radius Purge > 3, and let me know what's on the list.  (Don't actually purge anything.)  If nothing turns up, increase the number.  The idea is to find something in the area that's causing the glitch.

If you see a sim, you can click the ground again and select NRaas > MasterController [bullseye] > Sim > Basic > Outfit, select the sim you couldn't see before, and choose whatever outfit for them you want.  If you see a small animal or an object, you can purge it; large animals can be reset.

If nothing turns up, let me know whether your computer runs Windows or macOS.  For Windows, I'd like to see a dxdiag, which you can attach to a reply; if you have a Mac, please list its full specs, everything under About This Mac except for the serial number.

I will go and check later if that is causing it but I really doubt that that is the case since it always happens in specific spots on the map at at certain zoom levels. But I will check a little bit later when I get the chance just to make sure!

    I attached my dxdiag.

  • Sirsidoo  The issue could be a spawner, for example a minor pet spawner, as those don't move even though the objects they spawn can be anywhere within a certain radius.  I've never heard of this happening before, just saying the fact that the same spots are affected isn't conclusive.

Having said that, your dxdiag shows that your laptop's graphics driver is crashing and that it's from 2023.  So try installing the newest driver Intel offers for your processor and graphics chip:

    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/226269/intel-core-i31215u-processor-10m-cache-up-to-4-40-ghz-with-ipu/downloads.html

Run the installer as an admin: right-click the download and select "Run as administrator."  Restart your laptop afterwards and before trying to play.

Updating my graphics drivers seem to have fixed it for me! Also, for the NRAAS thing, when I click the one with the colon nothing happens really.

  • Sirsidoo  Glad to hear the new driver fixed it.

I guess it's not relevant now, but for future reference (for example if you want to delete an object on a lot you don't own):  When you click the ground of any lot, or even outside a proper lot, you should see two options that list NRaas MasterController.  Choosing one opens the usual list with options like Reset Lot and Object Stats (this would be the purge option).  Selecting the other one should show you two options: Radius Add to Inventory and Radius Purge.  You might need the MC Cheats add-on to see these, but it's been so long since I played without MC Cheats that I'm not sure.

The benefits of these options are that you can purge a single item near where you're clicking rather than every instance of that item on a lot, and that you can figure out what something is or what items are nearby.  I use this all the time without actually adding to inventory or purging, for example if I want to know whether a metal is silver or palladium, which look too similar for me to tell them apart by their thumbnails.

Thank you so so much! Especially for the link to the new driver since the thing built into Windows said it's up to date. Should the issue arise again, I'll try this.
