Sims 3 64bit crashing after less than 10min

Hello! I've read other topics about the same issue, and I've done everything recommended: remove cache files, remove options.ini, play in windowed mode, reduce graphics options, play offline, turn off wifi, close all background apps, restart my computer etc. I also deleted other save files. The only mods I have are Nraas' Master Controller, Overwatch and Error Trap.

I'm playing in Sunset Valley and I have Late Night, High-End Loft Stuff and World Adventures.

In the past I was able to play for about 30-40min (2 hours once!) before crashing, but now I can't even play for 10min.

I supposed this save is getting heavier but I would like to achieve my sim's Lifetime Wish and starting a new save would go against that.

Can somebody help me? I'm losing hope. I attached my DeviceConfig.log and my OS is up-to-date Ventura 13.1, I usually play with my laptop plugged-in

  • @sgtsophia  The pink lines typically come with low graphics settings, but I think enabling Advanced Rendering might be enough to get rid of them.  Your computer can handle ultra settings, although I'd keep water and high-detail lots down (I use "mirrors only" and 2, respectively) to lower the stress on the game engine.  You obviously don't need to use ultra settings if you don't want to; just raise them to whatever you're comfortable with.

If you get another crashe at 8:30 pm sim-time, that's the kind of issue that might be resolved by a MasterController town reset (NRaas > MC > Town Options > Reset Everything).  I actually had a similar problem a few days ago, which I believe was related to a specific rabbithole my sims were trying to use, and perhaps it would have been enough to reset the lot.  But I didn't feel like testing further since the town reset worked.  If you don't want your own sim(s) reset, you can set "Include Active Lot in Reset Everything" to False within MC's settings.

  • @sgtsophia  Is the save crashing at the same sim-time every time you play, or does the in-game time change while the save crashes after about 10 minutes no matter what?  The reason I ask is that if something is happening at a specific sim-time, that is a very different matter than if the game itself can't run for more than a few minutes.  If you're not sure, please run the save for about five minutes, save your progress (use "save as" and rename the save), then keep going.  When the game crashes, restart your computer and pick up with the new save, then see whether you can get past the point of the previous crash.

I'd also like to know whether a new save crashes.  I'm not suggesting you need to abandon this save, only that it's a useful comparison.

And in case you're wondering, your computer should absolutely be able to run Sims 3, all packs included, without this kind of crashing.

Hello @puzzlezaddict , thank you for your reply and help. The crashing was happening at around 8h30PM sim-time .

I started a new game in Sunset Valley and was able to play for 15min, including Build/Buy which is usually more demanding than live mode. So I quit the game and loaded my problematic save. I played for about 3min and selected Save As and renamed, and then I was able to play for about 20min (!) but before it could crash, I quit.

I don't know if I should have waited to see what would happen.

Now I'm going to try the new save and see for how long it goes.

Also thank you letting me know that my computer can handle all packs. I knew it should be able to run Sims 3 well, but I wasn't sure of how many expansion packs.

P.S.: In the new save in Sunset Valley I tried, many buildings in the Map View had pink lines and hues like this (see attachment) . I've heard of this happening in the 64bit version, but never happened to me
