@roberta591 wrote:First I would have to see both laptop specs side by side and compare them even if they have the same model number it is not unusual for a manufacturer to change production. How much memory is in both computers? First a 1ghz processor is way underpowered for TS3. The video chip Radeon HD 6290 is not in the game configuration file and will need to be manually configured. 2gb of main memory is below what a gaming computer should have (especially for packs like Seasons) and this could greatly affect performance. Error 1033 usually means file not found. Checking about paul.dll has to do with the drm (maybe SecuROM) and I don't know why this file is missing. All I can recommend about paul.dll is to reinstall the game.
roberta, the laptops are exactly the same, same memory, same hd, same processors, everything is the same. And as for Seasons, I will say again, I do not own that EP. Also I ran The Sims 3 and all my owned EPs and SPs on this exact same laptop before and there was no problem at all.
As for reinstalling the game. I have done that 3 times and I get the same error.

Maybe reinstalling it helps: http://answers.ea.com/t5/Spore/Could-not-write-license-data/td-p/16302
That didn't work. Working on the Crash Log Analyzer.
Update: I can't seem to get the Crash Log Analyzer for Sims 3 to show any crash log reports. Kinda confused about it.

Could you check if you have any files with xcpt in your documents folder (documents\electronicarts\thesims3\) If there are no crash logs, the game is not actually crashing but probably either not launching or it's something hardware related.
Did you change anything else when reinstalling ? Got a newer patch than you had before ? Changed the security software ? Did you try if the base game runs on it's own ?
- morrighanblake11 years agoNew RookieThere is no crash log reports. The only change is I downloaded and installed the newest patch.
How do I make the base game run on it's own when I have EPs and SPs installed? - crinrict11 years agoHero+
You can't. You would need to uninstall the EP/SPs
Not sure what else to suggest if you don't wanna do that.
Did you already try running the game by shutting of all services that run in the background to make sure nothing conflicts (I get cases mixed-up so not sure if you tried that)

I can safely say it is not my computer. I uninstalled my digital download of Supernatural and ran the games using Pets with that EPs disc and the game launched with no problem.
The reason I tried to do a digital download/install of Supernatural is because whenever I try to install it with my disc I get this:
"File: E:\GameData\Shared\Packages\FullBuild_p15.package
Error: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)."
I click retry, it installs a little more and the same error pops up again.
- crinrict11 years agoHero+
Then it probably is securom which would make sense since the paul.dll is giving you the error.
I do not know much about Securom but the disc version does not use it while the digital download one does. Something is either interfering with it or it can't verify something it should.
Does the disc have any scratches ? Did you try cleaing it ? Is your wife using the same DVD to install on hers or does she have a different one ?
- morrighanblake11 years agoNew RookieMy mother, she used the same disc. I clicked retry on hers once and the error never popped back up, it installed fine and she can play.

Your mothers, sorry 🙂
Then I would try some cleaning measures on your drive and the disc itself and try again. Would be really interesting if it works with the disc version. Is this the only disc you're having issues with ?
- morrighanblake11 years agoNew Rookie
Yes, the only disc. But it has a bad scratch on it and I can not get it repaired right now. My only option is to install through Origin. I am trying to re-install through Origin.
Update: Reinstalling Origin did not work. Supernatural still crashes. Is there a way I can bypass Securom so I can play Supernatural?

Unfortunatley no, cause it's used to verify your game.
Try the secuRom removal tool: https://support.securom.com/removaltool.html
It will reinstall when you reinstall Supernatural from download but maybe it helps. It's the only way to completely remove securom from your system. Uninstalling the game does not do so.
