Sims 3 University Life not installed even though Origin is saying it is. Expansion not being read by base game uninstaller or launching

I bought the University Life and the Island Adventures expantion packs through Origin. I download both of them at the same time and then installed them both with no problem, after they installed it said that I could play my Sims and both expansion packs would be there. Then I launched my game and only Island Paradise appeared, I don't know what happened or what to do because Origin says that it's installed when it's not. I tried playing but it appears as if I don't have the game when I did buy it, download it and installed it.

I have spent now 6 hours on this today, and trying to find places to get help with it. I bought, downloaded and installed (using Origin) as required by EA and even though Origin is reading that the expansion pack is installed, when I launch the game it just defaults back to Seasons. I tried to uninstall University life to try and start again, and the uninstaller doesn't have it listed.  However, Origin is showing it as installed.

I tried deleting the files and starting again, but go the same result.

I am now disputing this through paypal and will expect to get a full refund if this issue isn't resolved soon.

I don't see why we can just download and install games in the usual way, I've a very strong feeling that the problem lies with Origin.  I'm sure if I could access the downloaded file (which I can't seem to find anywhere on my computer!) I could get this to install myself.

Also, there is no proper contact point for customer issues, like a phone number or email address.

I believe this is legal requirement for online retailers and am checking that out with Paypal as well.

And when I tried to use the sims3 uninstaller it didn't appear there either.

I don't know what to do and I'm really frustrated, someone please help!

    Hi

Sounds as though your downloads may be corrupt or incomplete. Unfortunately this happens fairly frequently with Origin, but you should be able to get it working. The first thing to check is that your Mac is sufficiently up-to-date to be able to run the Origin client. It requires at least OS X 10.6.8 with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor or better.

Try deleting and reinstalling the Origin client for Mac and make sure it is up-to-date. The latest version can be downloaded from here: http://www.dm.origin.com/mac/download

Additional advice on how to download games (thank you Tremayne for this tip):
When downloading from Origin, do NOT use the first install icon. Move your cursor over the game cover and click on the information (letter i) and then click on the install button from there.

Are you running anti-virus software or any clean-up applications? If so, disable these, as they might be deleting files that Origin needs!

For some reason, downloads from Origin frequently become corrupted. Using the i reduces the chance of your download being corrupted. If you have already been unfortunate and have a corrupted download, then it is important to remove all traces of this before trying again, by doing a thorough, clean uninstallation first.

If this doens't work, try starting from scratch, by not only reinstalling the Origin client but also the game. BluebellFlora's website provides a guide on how to do this: http://bluebellflora.com/the-sims-3-on-a-mac/how-to-do-a-clean-uninstall-and-reinstall-on-a-mac/

After cleanly uninstalling, install the base game and patch it up to date. If you cannot update via the Launcher, download and apply the latest cumulative manual patch (called the superpatch) for Mac.

Check that your game works properly. Then install any EPs and SPs that you own, in order of release date.
