The time travel machine from Ambitions has not caused any issues for me, and I am not aware of any known serious issues that other simmers have experienced. I think traveling to the future has few game/household changes than traveling to the past does, so maybe stick to just the future if you're worried. According to the sims 3 wiki, the new child that you posted about is the genetic child of only the sim who used the time machine.
I don't have Into The Future so can't really comment on it
