[ARCHIVED] [CHEATS] Skill Cheat Not Working To Lower Skill Level

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.109.185.1030
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All except Goth Galore Kit
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Use any skill cheat (stats.set_skill_level ...) to set a lower skill level.
What happens when the bug occurs? The skill level does not change.
What do you expect to see? The skill level should change to the desired level.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

I'm not entirely sure but this may have started after the patch on 18 September.  Also, to be clear, I tested this in a new, unmodded save, which I can provide if needed.

I first tested with Nani Kealoha (toddler).  She had Communication level 3.  So I used this cheat...

stats.set_skill_level Skill_Toddler_Communication 2

The level did not change.  However, I was able to use the cheat to increase the level to 4.

Then, I tested skill cheats for several sims, including a Young Adult, a Teen and a Child.  For each, I found that I was able to increase their skill levels but I was not able to lower any.  This is especially impactful for players who use the skill cheat as a workaround for achieving Toddler milestones, when the skills advance from infant age up to toddler.

It might be worth mentioning that in a modded save, I was able to use the UI Cheats Extension mod to lower skill levels.

Thank you for your time and attention!

I have the same issue in ps5.

I can no longer decrease the skills of my sims with the codes. Increase, yes, no problem, but putting a number lower than their current skill does not work at all.
I tried on various saves and even on a new one but the problem remains the same.

Is there any update on this bug?  Has the team acknowledged it and indicated whether they are working on a fix?

I wanted to cheat my teen super sim's mixology skill down.  They reached Level 10 mixology sitting in on classes before earning the certificate and now they can't get it.  I've quit playing that save file until it gets fixed and I'm starting to wonder if they will since I don't see any updates on this.

I also use the cheat regularly to cheat my toddler's movement skill back down to level 1 to get all the movement milestones, since that bug has been around from the beginning of growing together and the team has never acknowledged it or indicated they would work on a fix.

I don't use mods since I don't think I'm not tech savvy enough to know how to update them when they release patches.  I've had to rely on sim cheats to overcome a lot of the in-game bugs, and losing the ability to cheat down skills has taken that ability away.

@Liz_GoBucks   Hi!  Even though EA has not commented on this particular thread, I'm confident the team is aware of the issue and working on a fix.  From previous experience, the lack of response does not mean the team is unaware of or ignoring a problem.  They typically only comment on bugs that literally break the game or they need saves because they're not able to replicate the issue.   Since I don't work for EA, I don't know what the progress is but I can guess that they were able to replicate this issue.  I definitely understand your frustration and I'm glad you've provided more input about how it is affecting your gameplay.  Please click "me too" on the first post, if you haven't already, and hopefully other users affected by this bug will do so as well.  At this point, all we can do is wait for the fix.

  • Also having this problem on Mac. Can't decrease skills but can increase fine. Quite frustrating, I hope a fix comes soon or perhaps another way to be able to alter skills such as a potion

  • I can't lower my Sims skills. The mischief skill is driving me mad. I've been typing the testingcheats on and then typing stats.set_skill_level major_1. I've tried the cheat on other skills and it's not working for them either. Is anyone else having problems with this or know a way it can be fixed. Also my Sims autonomy is off.

Same. I used to be able to set skills to the desired level I wanted with this cheat. But now I can only raise them. They won't lower no matter what you do. So I have to clone sims to reset them fully if I want to lower their skills, which is not idea.
  • I'm on console (XB1) and this is happening to me, too. I generally dislike when Sims advance autonomously in Mischief, so I miss the option to dial it back!
