[ARCHIVED] Fear of Swimming triggered without apparent cause

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Often (50% - 99%)
What is your current game version number? 1.90.375.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? high school years, cottage living, snowy escape, eco lifestyle, discover university, island living, get famous, seasons, cats & dogs, city living, get together, get to work, werewolves, my wedding stories, dream home decorator, realm of magic, strangerville, jungle adventure, parenthood, vampires, dine out, paranormal, nifty knitting, tiny living, moscino, laundry day, toddler, vintage glamour, romantic garden, movie hangout, spooky, perfect patio, holiday, decor to the max, incheon, fashion street, courtyard oasis, country kitchen
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? play as a sim for awhile in a lot without swimmable water
What happens when the bug occurs? sim acquires a 'fear of swimming' despite not having gone swimming and not being anywhere near swimmable water
What do you expect to see? sim should not acquire a fear of something without an appropriate trigger
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. fears patch

I'm not sure what it is about the house I made for these sims but every member of the household has been randomly acquiring the fear of swimming. the house is in forgotten hollow (which doesn't have swimmable lakes); they have no pool or pond; they don't go fishing. the sims are vampires so most don't even bathe.

the last sim to roll the fear was drinking a plasma jane. can this be triggered by drinking juice? is it their proximity to a (shallow) courtyard oasis fountain? is it because they're vampires + can't cross running water? is it from the sink?

    Same here but I am in Oasis Springs. One sim acts like they have it even with wants and fears turned off.

    This is happening to me too, I have a family living in Tartosa and the father in the family keeps getting the "fear of swimming" moodlet every time he is near the bathtub, sink or shower. It's getting beyond a joke at this point.

    I have this problem in Darkwing House in Britechester. Almost every single day someone in the household gets a fear of swimming. This lot is somewhat close to the swimable river, so I guess that's what's causing it somehow, even though they haven't been swimming there.

    @bc0414scI'm also in Oasis Springs. I actually had the fear of the dark bug with a few of my sims, but while they would act scared of the dark, they didn't have the trait. So I manually fixed it by giving them the trait with the cheat and having them face their fear by being confident outside. But when I put a pool on a lot, one of my sims started acting scared of the pool and like you, I had turned fears off at that point lol. So I was perplexed on why he had the fear, and the fear didn't show up in his traits. I'm thinking that you'll also need to apply the fear with a cheat and have them swim in the pool while confident, but I'm not sure what the code is for fear of swimming. Made a few guesses that didn't work.

    Update: I turned on wants and fears again to see what would happen. The sim is no longer scared of swimming.

    Guess who's back, back again. 

    This bug is back post Life and Death prepatch. Used fear be gone 3 times before I just started cheating the fear away.

    I also started getting this issue as of the latest patch, even on Sims with the "brave" trait

    I actually have determined a possible workaround for this: Get them back in swimmable water, and then manually direct them to walk back to a point on dry land. Don't have a Sim leave the lot while they're in swimmable water; that appears to be the cause, as best I can figure.

    At least, that's what seems to work for me.

    @HeroicJay My Sim was on a lot with no swimmable water and they kept getting the fear over and over again without ever leaving the lot. It also kept interrupting their ability to cook.
