This is my first time posting so bear with me if I've done it incorrectly 😳
Product: The Sims 4
Platform: PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Just occurred today on 1/11/2024 around 6AM
What is your current game version number? 1.103.315.1020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? For Rent, Get Famous, City Living, Get Together, Werewolves, Realm of Magic, Vampires, Paranormal, Nifty Knitting, Moschino, Vintage Glamour, Romantic Garden, Luxury Party, Holiday Celebration
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Not entirely sure. I downloaded a Residential Rental from the Gallery and placed it on the lot. I also changed Residential lots to Residential Rentals and assigned rooms and then the rent prices changed shortly after.
What happens when the bug occurs? The apartment displays itself being over 4 billion simoleons for rent.
What do you expect to see? Rent being charged appropriately according to lease agreement and build mode.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Mods are disabled.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? I don't think so. The last packs I installed were Nifty Knitting and Moschino but that was a few days ago.
I've recently started playing the Sims 4 around December 26th - 27th of 2023. Since there's only 1 or 2 empty lots in the original, I was playing on a 2nd empty save file in Glimmerbrook when I noticed the change. None of the other lots I've played on (in the empty save file) have done this. Their rent prices are still the same. I read someone's post that creating another save file works and I've tried that to no avail. I've changed the lots back from Residential to Rental and it worked so I saved it and exited the game to test it. When I logged back in 2 of the units had gone back to the 4 billion prices so I know that's not a permanent solution (see 2nd screenshot attached). I also read I'd have to move a sim in and then evict them to get the prices to go back to normal. I'm still editing the apartments right now so I can't move sims in. I'll have to try it once I'm finished and hope it'll fix the issue.
What is it about the number 4? Seems each time the excessive amount begins with 4. Anyway... I first had the problem with the launch of the pack. Somewhere it stopped and I just started having it again last night. I've tried the workarounds, fixed one unit of 6, the remaining 5 are stuck.
- 2 years ago@Wndblwz The reason all the high rent starts with the same number is because the problem is what programmers called an overflow.
If you want a more technical explanation: In computers if you subtract from a variable past its lowest value, in this case 0, the computer pretends there is a 1 before all those 0's and since for instance one less than 10000 (16 decimal) in binary is 01111, if the number was actually 0000 the computer replies that one less than 0000 is 1111 (15 decimal).
I don't remember what integer variable has the highest value we are seeing here, but I hope you get the principle.
To fix it, you usually just test the value after subtraction. If it's higher than before, you have done an overflow. I don't know why it takes so long for EA to add three lines of code.
