Installed Cottage living, now plants appear wilted and brown when they sprout. Cannot select water. Only option allowed is Uproot plant until it is ready to harvest. Get one harvest, maybe two, then it emits green vapors and only option is to dispose of dead plant. Removed all cheats. Same results. Unchecked allow cheats/scripts, Same results. REMOVED cheats/Mods folder removed, same results. Repaired game, same results. Uninstalled game entirely. Deleted all game folders Associated with Sims 4, Reinstalled entire collection, Same results. Plant a seed, plant comes up brown and wilted, can only water it at the initial planting. Turned off seasons, rain, snow, seasons, snowy retreat, Cheat free, Mod free. Game appears to have some sort of Blight on ALL plants, 100 percent except for mushrooms and garlic, mushrooms and garlic grow and are harvestable. Flowers-Dead, Vegetables-Dead, Fruit-Dead, Herbs-dead, Trees-dead. Plants have three phases. Seed, Dying and Dead. Starting to think that the game has a "Global Warming" virus to teach us how the end of true civilization is going to occur, or welcome to the Idiocracy. No fresh Water left-only Brawndo, it has Electrolytes, it's what plants crave. Sims 4 Dust Bowl. so much for the long awaited farming communities in Sims 4, now the death of the series for me. The game is no longer worth playing with this bug.
Solution. I did my own trouble shoot on this since every time someone listed this problem the result was 50 more questions to avoid answering it.
Attempt one. Removed all mods, failed.
Attempt two. Removed all mods, repaired game, failed
Attempt three. Removed all mods, uninstalled entire game, reinstalled with no mods, failed
Attempt four and five. Repeated Attempt three twice in case I didn't remove something, Uninstalled, deleted all folders associated with Sims 4, failed
Attempt Six. Uninstalled entire game, uninstalled ORIGIN entirely, deleted all ORIGIN folders and files, searched computer for virus/corrupt files (None Found) Checked update of
Windows 10, complete update already. Reinstalled ORIGIN. Installed Sims 4 ONE PIECE at a time. I had to fight ORIGIN to control what got downloaded and installed first, who ever heard of installing dust kit and 17 other packs before installing the main game feature? Installed SIMS 4 FIRST then the rest, tested plant growth each and every time, sixteen hours later Complete success, Sims 4 is running like normal, Plant growth is normal. AHEM, ORIGIN REINSTALLED seems to have fixed it, currently reloading Mods, so far, no problems.
I had uninstalled the game 3 separate times, making sure to remove all folders and files to no success. I uninstalled Origin and reinstalled Origin and then the game, one piece at a time, and haven't had a problem since. Oh Yeah, I listed platform and computer specs, I forgot to list the answer you have asked every single person with the problem, I figure you should have caught it however. ENGLISH I am running it in ENGLISH. American ENGLISH. And my retractable cupholder still works.

Hi, Thanks for sharing your detailed response to the dead/winter plant problem. I also have had this problem before cottage living.
I can build a beautiful lush oasis, and as soon as I add a sim, the lot, and the neighborhood look dark, wintered, dead. weird.
Take the sim out, go to main menu, return to lot, and all is well, just cannot add a sim, any sim.
Soooo, thanks to you, it will require a Origin re install,
as I also, have done the intial steps one does before we come to the soul crushing Complete uninstall re install ALL of it.
Thanks for taking the time to explain it all ,
your fellow Idiocracy inmate.
- 4 years ago@sillybear101 I believe it did help, but it did not solve the problem. They moved my result of the Origin attempt to a different topic on the same subject. I ultimately did it all over again. I finally uninstalled everything and installed everything except the Seasons Expansion pack. I am now 36 sims days free of plants dying. Moved to https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/Plants-keep-dying-for-no-reason-weed-bugs-every-day/m-p/10659870/highlight/false#M197003
- 4 years ago@Trehpike thanks , im still having the issues after a big clean re install so i will check out your link.

Have you reloaded all expansion packs? Yes to Origin making it extremely difficult to removed single packs. I have recently reinstalled absolutely everything, and this is when my game made plants all winter-looking all year round. Not advancing in growth as fast either. I'm guessing it's Country Living screwing things up? I have also been losing found seeds from my Sim's inventory which is entirely too annoying - a cow plant seed from the Forbidden Glade and a dragon fruit I bought from hidden objects. This totally messed with the rags to riches thing I had going. In the end my question is, did you reinstall all packs and is Country Living or Loft stuff (since things worked prior to my purchase of these two) perhaps the culprit?

I’ve tried different saves and the problem is the same in both. I’m pretty sure the problem is country living which is unfortunate. I’ve “repaired” all the packs in origin but might try the last ditch effort of uninstalling everything and reinstall.

Hey I had this problem, and worked through it with a great person on here, we put our heads together and realised that ITS SEASONS.
We chose to leave country living, and my friend uninstalled it, same issue, it must be related to our hardware we play on perhaps not the latest tech
and so, without seasons, no problem, and that big update a few months ago changed everything.
this was the only work around.
we spent days on this.
good luck, its the best advice I have got.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! For ALL your hard work! This has been an ongoing problem since July and in about 5 hours it will be the very last day of the year irl and I FINALLY found your solution!! There’s absolutely no reason why EA has not fixed this or even addressed it. Your hard work, perseverance and taking chances with your game has been for all of us!

Isn't it great , when we all get together and share info, thanks to TREPIKE,
we all get to play sims, and No thanks to EA, or their Tech team, who aren't up to date, nor interested in helping.
Hope you enjoy playing, remember to give credit to Trepike on their message, they should be way above novice.
merry xmas.

Thanks for the kind words, Sally, I am probably locked as an apprentice because I once challenged the Gurus who said that it was caused by a "specific" hack/cheat/CC that is "Known" to do this. Then I asked what is this hack/cheat/CC since I had uninstalled the entire game and origin and had ZERO hacks/cheats/CC in my game and still had the problem (except when I pulled "seasons" out, as you will know.) So, I am "that" guy to the Gurus, I am sure. I can hear it now, "Oh damn! It's 'That guy' with another problem! Close the windows, turn off the lights! Maybe he will go away!" TeeHeeHee...
Yes, I still have the dying plants, I have all the game installed, I am not so much worried of pretty as I am in functional. I would LIKE it to be pretty but that is out of the question. I have particular and that requires seasons to be involved. I do have to say I have played all the things I wanted to play out so I guess I don't care anymore. I have listed a number of things, such as greenhouses, Something I just tried, and it works, is I hollowed out a basement 4 levels down, put in plants in Hydroponics, trees in grow pots. It still all grows just fine. Not a window or light bulb anywhere to be seen. Some plants need to be out doors in sunlight to get planted but once they are planted I move that sucker underground in basement deep level 4. I set it with maximum height building so it will grow without growing through the floor but you can plant anything you want, drag it to sub level 4. It will grow just as well as a greenhouse in your back yard which is better than it will grow in the open sim's world. I do this for almost all my spell casters. Then I use the spell caster orb lights and float them all over the basement grow room. looks cool. and you can use the "OFF THE GRID" candle ones and leave them lit and not affect your bills, except for the fact that you now have more things in your possession to be taxed.
I have the entire game installed and I have all my cheats installed.
** I found a vague reference to "STICKS" that you can find in the debug build mode stuff. Supposedly at one point they were meant to be a way to recover dying plants. I have tried everything I could think of with these "Sticks" to recover a plant to no avail. I found numerous references going way way WAAAAAAY back about these sticks and no one was ever able to get them to work. Even in the description of these sticks it refers to using them. Problem is they don't grow anywhere, a reference to them being the byproduct of trimming bonsai trees? You can only find them?? Rarely growing in boondocks of the mountain retreat? Deserts? dead sticks growing out of the ground, you can't plant them. You can find them in the debug menu. I have had piles of them, rumor was you click on a sick plant and these sticks in some manner to heal the sick plant? Didn't work for me.
*** What I did find is that MCCC cheat has a "stats" menu if you shift click on a plant, this is the "evolve level" apparently BUT if you Shift click on the plant, select stats, and then has a number 1-100 possible, if the plant is below 50 it is going dead, if your plant is wilted, bump that number up to 100! Then it will let you evolve it (unless it is already perfect) but it will be alive again. IT also works if you overkill "take a cutting" from a plant, (which will kill a plant if you take 2 or 3 cuttings)
I have shared what I know about most every thing to get around the dead plant issues. I still have dead/dying plants. But with my work with greenhouses, robot/cyborgs, etc. I have found new game play ideas and just kind of ran with it. I now have my sims living in a world where water is getting scarce and work to save water and find ways to grow plants. I know with seasons it rains pretty much all the time but the rain can be deadly. LOL And I blame the extraterrestrials. I have NEVER and will NEVER play the Disney advertisement pack, oops sorry, the Star Wars pack. I have it just to keep up with the rest of the people. The only sure way I have found to make the plants "normal" is to remove Seasons. Try it? I put it back in just since I like a lot of the game play with seasons. It doesn't help to have seasons and disable the features; the plants will die. Remove seasons and the plants will live. Let me know if it works for you? Save all your game that you have to a thumb drive, or if you have the space and separate folder named back up or whatever and if you want to go back to using seasons you can just copy all the old game stuff back. I have done it dozens of times. There are a lot of discussions of what to save, and so on. And YouTube videos. But if you don't like it without seasons you can just delete the same folders you backed up from the current game, copy the old folders back into the game and go right back to where you left off. Best idea is to just don't get attached to your games until you are happy with what you are playing with, I guess. let's see.... I restarted it and reinstalled everything like 45 or 60 times. I can't remember, I tried things and uninstalled and reinstalled 4 times in one day. For me the problem didn't show up until the Cottage living pack was released and I had played it for 6 weeks. I had everything, including seasons. I installed Cottage living and was happy playing, then 6 weeks later, plants started dying, emitting green smoke, turning to piles of dirt, everything just started to wither, including the plants around the world. THe pine trees on the mountains were brown and sticks. Wild plants would just be gone. All I could find were Lemons and Garlic. Overnight, poof. I went to bed all happy with my game, woke up to a dead and dying world. I updated my computers Graphics driver and the world came back, but not the plants, I removed all cheats/hacks. Still problems. I uninstalled the game, still the problem. I uninstalled again, installed and played each piece one game at a time, as soon as I hit seasons the problem was back. I uninstalled again. Left out seasons and was able to do it all and put all my cheats and hacks back in except for the seasons related ones. Everything was good. Install seasons, poof dead and dying. Rinse and repeat a dozen times. I uninstalled the game, and Origins and reinstalled everything, played for 3 days and it was dead and dying again after 3 days. Removed seasons. All Good. but I wanted seasons so I play with it and found ways to make it work. Lots of cheats/lots of hacks/lots of CC.
Thats why my Avatar is the dog with the cone of shame.
