@unicornpiggiezI don't think they can. Short of making so we can place each side of the railing independently (like we could in Sims 3) I think the options are either the thicker ones clip through walls or they disappear if they interact a wall which causes issues if the wall is only partially the length of the stairs. I'll take the clipping over the latter since the latter issue looks so much worse and impacted how I built my houses instead of just which railing I picked.

@Purpleflavored I believe a while ago, like a couple years back, railings behaved in a way where they would disappear if a wall covered them. Back then, the railing wouldn’t fully cut out, only cutting out the part that was covered by the wall.
It seems like somewhere along the line, they broke it so railings no longer partially cut out. Hopefully they can figure out what broke it so we can go back to the time where railings both don’t randomly disappear when walls partially cover them, while also correctly disappearing when in portions where walls intersect them.
