This has been happening to me as well even if they're cuddling its showing green hearts with plus signs but the romance relationship is going down further in the red. It seems like you can't do anything. You have to stay up there butt just to make the relationship last lol
This is a big issue for me as well. The notices are not at all in keeping with the interactions of the sims, either. So they might have just been very romantic, then a message appears that x is very unsatisfied and "If you are mean to me I will split up with you!" completely out of nowhere. I don't mind fluctuating relationships but they have to have some basis in logic!
I also had one sim who was obsessed with her partner not giving her attention whenever he was spending time with their kids. That seems plotworthy, except she kept getting those moodlets long after he was dead. And I kept getting messages about her being unsatisfied and needing to improve their relationship...
I've since started a new game, but in the new one, I had this happen right after a sim's husband died of anger. About 24 sim hours later I got the message that the two sims were very satisfied in their relationship and their romantic connection would keep growing. He does appear as a ghost sometimes but had not done so at the time I got this message - she was still in mourning. (also his partner is afraid of ghosts, so their interactions post mortem have been eclectic to say the least).
I think the whole thing has randomised and the messages that come up/sudden relationship decay isn't really tracking what the sims are doing, how their relationship is, their interactions and so on. Plus, even when sims are happy, and don't have a mean trait, they suddenly will start 'unpleasant' conversations or 'awkward' conversations...
This will sound terrible, but I ended up pairing a family where the parents were best friends and had no romantic connection at all. They had babies together by science and they were great parents, with healthy social interactions and no drastic and unprovoked mood swings. It was a big relief :/ Right now I have all but given up on proper sim relationships because maintaining them is next to impossible. This despite having Lovestruck installed because I *want* my sims to have productive relationships...
Sidenote - I have not found that taking sims on a date makes any difference to this. I've had it happen right after coming back from a successful date...
I have no mods or CC installed so I know this is definitely a game twitch.
