I have done some more testing. I now believe that there may be two separate issues occurring here, and one of them affects vampires only.
Issue 1: Pre-existing spellcasters and vampires created before the update do not retain occult eyes saved in CAS.
Solution: De-age sims to toddlers in CAS, hit "Play" to exit CAS, return to CAS and age sim back up, set their eyes to your desired swatch, then hit "Play" again. This seems to be 100% effective for the spellcasters I have tested this on, however Vampires still have to contend with Issue 2.
Issue 2 (Vampires only): Vampires created both before and after the update will have their occult eyes and (possibly, but not always) other vampiric features removed when age or gender settings are altered in CAS. Age and sex/gender change might not be the only triggers, need to test more things.
New vampires or vampires cured from Issue 1 by de-aging as described will still experience Issue 2 no matter what. It cannot be remedied without a patch, the best you can do is be very careful with the sync button and make sure to redo your occult eyes and vampiric features every time you enter CAS and only use Live mode for aging up vampire sims. Final changes made before exiting CAS will be retained on your sim, but it is very easy to for your occult features to get erased and require reapplication during normal CAS use. Here are some different scenarios of what happens when changing vampires' age in CAS:
- Changing age or gender with dark form selected and link enabled: Both forms retain occult features of dark form. If normal form had different occult features from dark form, they are replaced and synced with dark form.
- Changing age or gender with dark form selected and link disabled: normal form only loses vampiric features.
- Changing age or gender with normal form selected and link enabled: both forms lose vampiric features as dark form syncs with normal form's loss of features.
- Changing age or gender with normal form selected and link disabled: only normal form loses vampiric features.
I have been running these tests without my mods, but I added my mods back in to do different tests and discovered something interesting- one of several non-default cc eye sets I have that are enabled for occults only is completely immune to this issue on all occult types. Sims using these eyes never, ever have them overwritten no matter what. I am going to go through all the different attributes of the package for this eye set in S4S and compare it to my other eye sets that are getting overwritten by this bug to see if maybe it can help me track down the root cause of what's affecting the stuff in the base game.
Great timing for EA to break supernatural sims before a supernatural update. 🙂

I hope this doesn't get taken down, I did find the cc I am using that is from the makeup category. Deamon Eyes N129 by Praline.
