I'm also having this problem with a sim who's a freelance writer. If she starts writing a book and then leaves the lot or I go into CAS, all progress on the book is lost. If anyone knows a cheat code to complete a freelance gig, I'd appreciate it. I can't seem to find one anywhere (and I don't want to install UI Cheats).
Not really a solution but a workaround: Resetting the Computer where the Sim is writing/programming will complete it. Those who don't know how to do that: "testingcheats on" -> left-click the Computer -> Reset Object (Debug). Hope it works for you...
- PandoraTO3 years agoSeasoned Ace@arikitsuragi, unfortunately, it didn't work. Or maybe I'm doing it wrong. My sim started writing a book, then I went into CAS (her toddler aged up and I had to fix the kid's wardrobe), and when I came back, reset the computer and resumed her writing, her progress had still been lost.

I'm sorry... Can you try Resetting the Computer/Instrument while your Sim is doing the writing/progamming?

I decided to test this again based on some others' posts. In my mod-free save, progress is still resetting when my sim travels. She is able to resume with progress as long as she stays on the lot.
@arikitsuragi Resetting the sim while she is writing music or books does not complete the task for me. Edit: Resetting the computer or instrument also did not complete the task.
@wanderingchild81 I haven't found a mod to fix this issue but I did find a mod that shortens the amount of time needed to write.
For anyone who doesn't mind using mods (sorry console players), search for QuickWrite by MIKYA. They have three different options with varying speeds so make sure you read the instructions in the Download tab as well as the Information tab which has the descriptions of all the files for each download. You should only use one of them. Also, double check their list of potential mod conflicts. I have been using the sonicsim version for a while without any issues and I love that my sims are done writing in just a few minutes. :-) If you do decide to try one of these mods, you will probably want to test it in a new save, or in a save you don't care about, just to make sure it doesn't cause problems in your game. Good luck!
