I've had the "lose progress after travel" version of this bug for a while now, but recently (possibly after the latest patch, but I'm not sure) ANY attempt to resume a previously started book (haven't tested with song writing yet) restarts from the beginning. My sim took a break to use the toilet--no switching lots, no quitting the game from me--and when she went right back to work on the book she'd been almost finished with, the progress bar was back to zero :/

@Fanphoria, that's interesting. The same thing happened to me yesterday, but I let the sim continue writing and she finished quickly, as though she had been continuing to write instead of starting all over. The progress bar was still stuck at zero. Anyway, I figured I just needed to restart the game, as I'd had it open for about a sim week at that point and other small glitches were happening. I closed out, repaired the game and threw out the localthumbcache file. I'm assuming that the next time I play, the progress bar issue will be gone again.
