[BY DESIGN] [RoM] Overcharging no negative effects if Sim is safe from tense

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? Русский язык
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? Latest
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All of them
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Have a spellcaster, fill his spells' meter
What happens when the bug occurs? Nothing, while the description says it is dangerous and can kill a sim
What do you expect to see? Overcharging should have negative effects and potentially cause death
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Neutral/Not Sure

At first I was playing a ghost spellcaster so when overcharging did nothing to my sim I thought it is ok. Though it was weird that the ghost not just stays "alive" (you know what I mean, right?), but there is absolutely no negative effects like was shown in the trailers. Ok, I agree the ghost can't die, but it should also be blown by this "overcharge" o something like that.

Than I've tried "normal" sim. At first I tried to play "normally" and waited for the death from overcharging or any negative effect to occur. Nothing happened despite spell-meter was always full. So then I've nullified all the perks that could affect it and began to spam spells. NOTHING! I used "rise charge", then spam "hardest" spells and dueling - sim just won't die. I've already reached the 14 point this way, of course the stronger the sim is the lower is the risk, and in the way this sim also got a perk for spellcasting aspiration, but the risk just wasn't there from the beginning! I even made this sim hungry and sleepy - with no effect.

Additional info that maybe important:

1. Both sims (ghost and normal) are pretty "high level", they have high skills in many areas, logic, body, mechanical etc.

2. Both sims have completed at least several aspirations and have perks from them.

3. Both sims have many additional perks bought for aspiration points.

  • No my sim gets very tense and sometimes really uncomfortable when overcharging. She doesn’t have any perks preventing it. When she overcharges she looks like she is being electrocuted she goes black like she was singed and her hygiene bar depletes. She gets a negative moodlet saying not to do it again (it last for six hours). I over charged her five times in three hours she just wouldn’t die. She gets back up and is just a little dirty.

@Miss_Madness02 Dying is not a given though. There's a chance of dying and if you're getting all the moodlets, I don't think it's the same as this. Your Sim just got lucky
  • I'd also like to point out that in my situation, for Spellcasters, when I have the Reward "carefree" (from Reward store - Sim never gets Tense), I noticed that my ability to discharge can now only be done during the Charged State. I cannot Discharge in Overcharged State (I can discharge in overcharged state when I don't have carefree).

Furthermore, Casting repeatedly in Overcharged State pushes me to Dangerously overcharged State but it looks different. There aren't any cracks in the pink globe indicator (for charge) like it was when I did not have Carefree. It just looks like it just turned a darker shade of pink.

When I have my sim set to "Always Transportate" (automatically transportate), it will generate a weird bug where the action cancels and never gets done even if I try to repeatedly move somewhere. My temporary solution until this bug is fixed is to Select "never transportate". This will disable the automatic transportate, and Then I can transportate by clicking on ground (options come out, I click "Magic..." Menu, then "spells..." menu, and select transportate. It's not like that when you have it set to automatically do it.

Anyway I hope this helps and I'm hoping for a fix

yes, it's all the same for me and for all sims that are safe from tense, I presume.

And this one is a different bug, here: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Bug-Reports/NEEDS-INPUT-ROM-quot-Always-use-transportalate-quot-gets-Sims/td-p/8188676

Could anyone with this issue possibly share a save file, to help us investigate? Thanks for the help!

Edit: This issue actually sounds like it might be by design. If a Sim has the Carefree trait and is protected from Tense moodlets, then how it's working makes sense. There was potentially an oversight here, but yeah, it's working as expected currently.

Carefree is currently not the only way to make a sim completely immune to death from overcharge. There is also its Island Living equivalent, the aspiration reward trait Laid-Back. One can also add an alabaster crystal to a celestial crown from Get Famous to never become tense and hence never worry about overcharge again. I've tested this extensively and have yet to see a sim die from the only drawback spellcasters suffer at the moment when equipped with any of the three methods described above. (And please don't mention curses - they don't deserve to be listed as they're so easy to get rid of that it's laughable.)
