    Sims that confront their fear of the dark will not continue to be affected by the Afraid of the Dark Scared Moodlet buff.

    Fixed in Patch 1.97.42/1.73

Yep, just had this happen in my game, weirdly it was the younger sister that got the fear and conquered it but the older sister started getting the moodlets after coming home the next day. She never even had the fear trait.  

As an experiment I downloaded and installed the UI cheats mod and even though you can click the moodlet to get rid of it, it comes right back.. so not even that works. 

I was able to recover a save that was from before my sims got the fear, and then I turned off wants and fears. So far that seems to have worked. If you are able to recover an older save, I'd give that a shot.  Kind of sucks having to play without a feature but honestly my "wants' were mostly just to listen to music.
