[ARCHIVED] [FR] Residential house acting as rental (Showing residential on map)

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:PC
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.103.315.2020
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? Tiny Living, Snowy Escape, Seasons, Romantic Garden, Paranormal, Outdoor Retreat, My First Pet, Luxury Party, Laundry Day, Jungle Adventure, Island Living, High School Years, Greenhouse Haven kit, Fashion street kit, Everyday clutter kit, Eco lifestyle, For Rent, Dream Home decorator, Discover university, desert luxe, city living, cats & dogs, book nook kit, blooming rooms kit,
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Load into 1 Tam Nang Sands in Tomarang and play/build while the house is classed as a residential
What happens when the bug occurs? My residential house seems to be partially registering as a residential rental. I own the house, and I have no landlord, but my mailbox is showing an option to "give notice to move", and when my bills arrive I get the 24hrs to pay rent pop-up, and now on Harvestfest I'm not able to put up decorations because it's saying I don't own the lot.
What do you expect to see? A house classed as a residential lot not showing residential rental features.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? No

This is the house that was originally on Hothotok Shore, I moved it to 1 Tam Nang Sands because I wanted the bigger lot to be able to add a pool. The lot (1 Tam Nang) was previously classed as a residential rental, but I changed it when I moved this house over and did some construction - it has never been classed as a rental since then. The family purchased it normally with no real estate cheats, and moved from a residential (not rental) house in the other neighbourhood in Tomarang. Ever since then, this house is still showing as a residential, and my bill information says nothing about a tenant agreement or rent, but the mailbox always has an option for "give notice in writing" and now I can't decorate because I apparently don't own the house? It's clearly not fully registering as either a rental or a residential, and it's very frustrating. I'm having issues moving out of this house and keeping my inventory (other thread here) so I'm wondering if that's what's going wrong?

I've attached some screenshots related to my bug, so you can understand what is happening a bit better:

    1. The rule violations I get every time I load into the lot.

    2. The lot type is set as residential, not residential rental.

    3. It also shows on the map as residential.

    4. Now poor Aree is afraid of being evicted.

P.S. Yes, I know you can tell I am using several mods. The issue persists even when I have mods disabled. Here's proof (interestingly enough, she didn't get the fear this time I loaded in. I think that only happens some of the time...):

  • Yep, having the same problem on the same lot as the OP.  Also had the problem on the Ro Kaya Rockside lot after downloading some rental properties from the gallery just to look at.

EDIT: I might have figured out a workaround but it's complicated and weird so I might not have got all the steps correct.

First make a fresh save just in case something goes wrong. Then take any personal stored items and put them in your inventory or they will disappear during this process.

    1. Change the lot to a residential rental. (from here if you go back out to manage worlds you'll probably notice the lot is now listing multiple apartments even though there are none..)

    2. Create 6 apartments. You don't need to build anything new unless you have less than six rooms in the building.

    3. Just go to manage worlds and make sure it shows six apartments. You might notice some weird names or extremely high or low rent. Don't worry about that.

    4. load back to your sim. In the apartment management screen It now should show you as the property manager and all six apartments.

    5. Sell the apartments. This will kick you out of the world and you'll have to load back in.

    6. Go back into build mode and Delete the apartments using the trash can icon and lastly change your apartment back to a shared space.

    7. Buy the apartments. This will take you to the world screen where you'll have to choose to buy your lot again.

    8. Go back into build mode and change the lot back to residential. When you go back to live mode the mailbox should no longer show options to pay rent or break your lease.

    9. Save your game, exit to menu and then reload. I don't know why I did that last step but it felt like the right thing to do.

I somehow ended up with three bicycles in my household inventory after doing all this. Are bicycles somehow related to this bug?.. like tenants leave bicycles behind on apartments and they don't' get cleared? I don't know.

  • Just viewed my Sim's acquaintances and discovered one they both share is labeled Landlord.  These sims live on a residential lot and I have checked to make sure it appears that way in world view.  I have no MODs and this just started after I completed the 1/14/2025 update.  I started my The Sims 4 collection by preordering the first version, and have continued, thus having all issued additions.
