I had a similar issue.
I did blind dates 3 days in a row successfully and the event failed while I was on the fourth date (day 4), around 8pm in game time.
The event failed on Love Day so I wonder if the blind date counting for the Love Day objective caused it to not also count for the event. Either way, there are some weird things going on with this one.
