Major bug: Game Data Incomplete after installing the May 4 update

I have a major glitch that needs to be on the compiled list of bugs. After installing the May 4, 2015 update, you will the Game Data Incomplete dialog upon loading a game. In addition, entering Build Mode or Create a Sim no longer shows items from Get to Work or Outdoor Retreat although you already had both previously installed prior to version 1.6.

How to cause the issue:

  1. Have Get to Work and/or Outdoor Retreat prior to version 1.6
  2. Let Origin update The Sims 4 to version 1.6
  3. Start The Sims 4 and load a game, the Game Data Incomplete dialog should appear.
  4. In addition, the catalog doesn't show the items from Get to Work or Outdoor Retreat as if you don't own the Packs or otherwise haven't installed them.

Symptoms of the bug include:

  • Game Data Incomplete dialog appears when loading a game.
  • Typing version in the console only shows the Base game version
  • Get to Work, Outdoor Retreat or Holiday Celebration Pack items aren't included in Build Mode or Create a Sim.
  • The packs in My Packs are dimmed but listed as owned.

This occurred on the Windows version of The Sims 4 running on Windows 7 Professional. It's to note that I do own The Sims 4 Get to Work, The Sims 4 Outdoor Retreat as well as holiday pack and they were installed before the May 4 update.

Edit: Repairing The Sims 4 seems to fix this issue. If you experience the symptoms, it's advised to repair your Sims 4 game.

    @Bluebellflora has it on her older mac so it does seem to occur on those too. It's been happening since OR came out, just not as often so it's not a new issue 🙂

    So pleased it's not just a Mac issue, hopefully EA will look into it if more people keep reporting the problem. I only get it on my iMac, my MacBook Pro has never encountered it. What is the spec. of your PC? It seems to be happening to Mac users with lower end machines, although this could be coincidence. Just make sure you don't save when it happens. Just quit straight away and try again. I've never had to repair the game, I just quit and restart until it works. As Crinrict has said, it's been around since OR was released.

    I wasn't aware of the Incomplete Data until I downloaded the May 4 update but it's a good thing that the May 4 update doesn't break Outdoor Retreat or Get to Work on the Mac version of TS4, it only seems to affect Windows users although I'm not sure if their packs were broken by the update or they got the Incomplete Data even without touching the files. However, I do remember about the thread asking about the Incomplete Data in The Sims 4 Mac Forums but like Bluebellflora I haven't seen any PC Simmer experience the Incomplete Data until May 5 when I installed the May 4 update.

    I also forgot to mention I had The Sims 4 installed since October 2014.

    Here's my PC's specs (Mines a 2009 PC).

    • Windows 7 Professional SP1
    • AMD Phenom II X4 920 2.8 GHz
    • 4 GB RAM
    • ATI Radeon 5670 (currently I have the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960)
    • 120 GB SDD and 750 GB HDD

    I wonder if EA is aware of people suddenly getting the Incomplete Data dialog.

    It was happening before, believe  me. I've seen many reports. Since OR came out.

    And yes, EA is aware.

    EA can't not know about it, it's been around since January and plenty of Mac and Windows users have been reporting it. I was really hoping for a fix in the latest patch but sadly nothing came. If it's an Origin issue then let's keep our fingers crossed for a fix soon!

    This happened before outdoor retreat with stuff getting deleted. My holiday pack got uninstalled and I had to reinstall before OR came out however I haven't seen the game data message though I haven't played the game since I patched.
