What I want to report is not a bug per se. But a factor that has become increasingly worse in my game over the last year or so. It is the auto delete maximum file size on the localthumbs cache file. I don't think the auto delete function (max files size allowed) on that has changed since the game released ten years ago. The more new worlds we get with each EP or GP allows us to create more sims to place in homes. And I know that the coding that allows for maximum amount of sims also increases to allow for players to fill these new worlds. What is it now, about 800 sims? Probably even more with latest world in the new Lovestruck EP. But what has not been increasing to work in conjunction with this increase in maximum amount of sims is the maximum file size allowed for the localthumbs cache. 800 sims need 800 individual thumbs for each portrait, and also the larger family thumbnail portraits. The auto delete for the localthumbs cach is now well out of sync with this. Meaning at the start of every session, the localthumbs file size is already deemed too large for all the thumbnail portraits that were only generated the previous session. So it gets auto deleted once again. And I'll say it once again, every session. Something of a vicious circle.
I don't even have 800 sims in my world. Closer to 600. But that is enough to bloat out the localthumbs cache and initiate the auto delete next session. Meaning I experience game lag while waiting for the thumb portraits to generate all over again each time. Also sit around twiddling my own thumbs (no pun intended) if waiting on a specific sim portrait to generate in the relationship panel. And heaven help me if their name begins with Z.
I am looking forward to installing latest patch that gives players the option to hide sim portraits from view. But I don't think that will help much on reducing the auto delete of the localthumbs cache itself as even if the sim portrait is hidden, it still had to first be generated before it can be hidden, ergo still adding to the file size of the localthumbs cache so that it still reaches maximum size allowed and gets auto deleted next session.
So not particularly a bug. In fact it works exceedingly well, just as it should. But is now so out of date and out of sync with the amount of sims we can currently have in our worlds that it has become a tedious hindrance to game play, every session. Please tell me something can be done about this. Perhaps point me in the right direction to what file I need to edit myself.
