Neighborhood Stories: Excessive deaths

Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? General game play - it appears that there a a lot of townie deaths mostly un played households. Since new EP/ patch 6 of my sims friends have died randomly (all adults/young adults). I have turned off weather related deaths however since they are mainly not in world sims I cannot see the reasons for their deaths.
What happens when the bug occurs? Lots of sims appear to be dying - more than in usual gameplay. Main deaths are not in world townies.
What do you expect to see? Less random deaths of Townies/ sims not in world.
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not now. I've removed them.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes

I have turned off weather related deaths so I know it’s not this now, however since they are mainly not in world sims I cannot see the reasons for their deaths but it does seem excessive.

Edit - I found that one of the deaths has been emotional (laughter) so perhaps issues with emotional deaths but not confirmed

@crinrict Yes, I’ve just been back through and checked and there’s actually a lot more deaths than originally thought and they are through neighbourhood stories.

If I remember correctly the deaths through Neighborhood Stories get triggered when your population reaches a certain threshold (if there are less Sims in your save there probably won't be any). So it might be possible that you just reached this threshold and experience more deaths than usual because of this.

@flauschtrud I think the count is around 31/80. I have turned off random deaths in neighbourhood stories and it’s stopped now

I assume that this is the count of the played Sims right? The unplayed Sims would also count for the total.
But it's good that it's stopped now that you deactivated Neighborhood Stories. The game will still cull Sims under the hood for performance reasons but it won't touch your played Sims this way.

@TheSimsDirect I just purchased Growing Together this weekend and the first time playing the game after that, Marcus Flex died. He had a high relationship with my played Sim's husband. Kinda ticked me off, though. Then, within a day or two (Sim's days), my sim was notified in the middle of the night that her BFF died. (Becca Clark?) This is unacceptable. If EA feels they need to cull Sims, then why choose Sims with relationships with played Sims? There are plenty of townies I'd never miss or interact with. Plus, both Sims were Young Adult. Personally, I feel like it's a really nasty thing for EA to do. There's realism and then there's realism and this isn't either one.

EA should also keep in mind that this sends Sims into mourning and with a few Sim days being several months in Sims time, this ridiculous gameplay incapacitates the Sim(s) for far too long to make gameplay enjoyable or to keep it moving forward. It also really screws with the Sims who are attempting to "collect" friends. It's just wrong on so many levels.

I also do not want to turn off aging in any capacity because I like having my Sims age, as well as their friends. I do have it on a custom span that is longer than the EA long, but I still want the aging to move forward....for all of the Sims.

I play with Mods. I didn't add any Growing Together Mods yet but I'm not going to remove my Mods just on the off chance that a family friend dies again. It's sometimes hard enough to play with the mods in (boring) and would be unbearable to play without them (waaaayyyyyyyyy more boring).

@columbia93 Accidental deaths don't have anything to do with Growing Together.
And if you don't like this feature you can turn it off completely or only for some households in the settings for Neighborhood Stories (in Manage Households). These features are totally customizable.
